Oasis incident at Freeport Shipyard

From the reports on some sites of the failure of the dock and the port now stating there are going to be far less work due to dock 2 now not being available for a significant amount of time going forwards it does appear to be more than ballast tanks now.

The original video shows one side of the dock vertical with the crane pressing into the side of the ship, but the other side of the dock and canes also pointing into the ship, which lets be honest isn't a good sign. The shot below seems from the angle to show the same. One side up in the air but the other side vertical / leaning it a little, could be the camera but other shots show the same strange angles.

Post #42 has a still from this video:

https://youtu.be/LzQVZaAkDeo

which, to my mind, shows the starboard dock wall clearly leaning to port with the unfallen crane, and the port dock cranes also leaning to starboard.  The pictures at the site someone referenced earlier:

https://www.is.fi/ulkomaat/art-2000006058074.html?ref=rss

also show the port cranes leaning toward starboard, at an angle quite similar to the list of the ship.

Just did a search Google search. Some retweets from James and a new post about thunderstorms in Texas and Oklahoma.  Nothing about Oasis. Just like nothing happened in regards to Oasis.

They're gonna need a bigger crane to remove the crane. Unless they plan on shipping the crane that is onboard to Spain.

I expect it will be cut into pieces, but another crane would definitely help.

Maybe a floating crane on a barge.  Or a port crane on the NW side of the basin.

More topside work could be accomplished enroute to Spain with fallen crane out of the way.

They are going to need a crane to get the port side cranes off of the side of the ship. Once they get those free, they'll probably pull the broken crane off the Aquatheater. They aren't going to head out into the water with it draped off the side like that.

at 1:24 in this video you can see that the starboard coffer damn is damaged or destroyed while the port one seems to be intact.

The Van Fleet twitter video showed the cofferdams were centerline and port locations:

https://twitter.com/JamesVanFleet/status/1112678138734149632

Both are visible in the stillshot below, but partially submerged.

Based upon the process shown in the video in post #59:

https://youtu.be/LXacQoZ5b6I

the ship does not rest on the cofferdams, but depending on manner and location of the dock failure, damage to Azipod or hull could occur.  If an Azipod was already open then there would presumably be internal damage from salt water also.

Hello all.  I have been following this thread since there is more information here (or easier to find) than in other places.

The evacuation video brings to me a big issue that nobody has mentioned.  Did anyone notice that they had to walk under the fallen crane on the port side of the floating dock to evacuate to dry land?  What if that section of the boom had broken off and fallen into that area blocking access?  Was there a different evacuation route they could use?

Wikipedia on floating dry docks:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_dock#Floating

"A downside of floating dry docks is that unscheduled sinkings and off-design dives may take place."

An October 2018 incident in Russia with a floating dry dock that experienced an "unscheduled sinking" due to a power failure linked below.  A crane fell on the ship in the process.

Good question for Van Fleet. He seems to be not eager to share any details though regarding what happened during this incident. You should report on the good and the bad while providing follow up details. His past at a local Tampa TV station here should make this obvious. Pretending nothing happened is just bad PR.

James Van Fleet ever share details on social media after the mishap? Seemed like he was really into giving us first hand details from GBSL a few days ago.

Probably got his hand slapped

Why was the weatherman even onboard?

I would guess that the many attorneys that Royal has in retainer or on staff have put a social media blackout on him

lets be real here. It’s not his job to be an unbiased reporter in his position at Royal. He is a PR person.

LOL. Not hurricane season? Things are kind of slow now? Use him for PR until July?

And that's what's wrong with Royals social media representation. Attention whores sometimes screw up.

Love the Rhapsody. Good choice! Smaller friendly ship where you get to know the crew and other passengers.

So, why does it feel like originally we had some information and some informed what is happening, and now we just have lunatic opinions and crazy ideas?

Get a grip people.  Good lord.  Put down the YouTube and MSNBC

There is an almost overwhelming amount of irony in this post.

See post 213.  "UBS speculates on possible EPS impact."

Royal wants to control the narrative, not have analysts drawing conclusions from a weatherman's tweets.
