$140 pp on board credit

This may be old news, didn't find anything in search, but last night booked a cruise and learned that I could get an additional $140 pp on board credit by using my AMEX Platinum card for deposit.  They also went back and credited a booking I made a few months ago using that card.  Not sure if its only for Platinum.

American Express does have a cruise privileges program for their Platinum and Centurion cardholders.

I seem to remember that it cannot be combined with other promotions? Not sure if I am remembering correctly.

I didn't realize that this was available if only the deposit was made with Amex Plat (and also a non-Amex Plat Travel Agent).

We got this when we booked our first relatively recent cruise with Amex Travel, so it was "with Amex Plat Trav Agent" and also "the full payment on Amex Plat".

Does this work if only the deposit is made with Amex Plat *and* with outside TA?

Thanks!

If you have an American Express Platinum card and use it to pay the deposit and final payment for a cruise on Oceania, you will be eligible for:

Receive valuable amenities on sailings of five nights or more with your American Express Card.*
$300 per stateroom shipboard credit
Premium Wine Tasting event, plus a bottle of wine of your choice from the tasting menu

This is available for any booking whether booked directly with Oceania, a regular travel agent or an American Express Travel Agent.  There are some promotions that it is not combinable with but always best to check.

We have used this on most of our Oceania Cruises and they were booked via a regular TA.

I have not had the Platinum card for many years now but I seem to remember that if you use your card for payment of ANY portion of your cruise you were eligible for this benefit - i.e. the entire cruise did NOT have to be paid by Amex Plat.

Maybe someone who uses this card regularly can chime in?

My AMEX Platinum is my everyday card.  It appears that this benefit is available if only the deposit is made with the card.  I only have made the deposit and the obc appears on my invoice already.

We always use our Platinum Card for charging cruises.  Occasionally a travel agent from another larger agency will say that the AMEX benefit is not combinable with their benefit.  One time, the agent made up for the lack of AMEX benefit with additional on board credits from her own acount.   Another time both benefits were available and easily booked.

Occasionally a cruise line will say that a promotion is not combinable with the AMEX benefit.   Almost every time that has happened, our AMEX cruise specialist was able to add it back later.

I have found that you often get different answers from the cruise lines so don't hesitate to have your agent call back.

We just used ours-gave the number to our TA and it is now on our receipt so we have proof to bring along.  Not all travel agents have the AMEX "approved travel agent: designation, though.  Luckily, ours happens to have it.  He does not work for AMEX-but certain independent travel agents have been able to get an AMEX designation.

Not quite true - an agency/agent does not have to have an AMEX approved travel agent designation.  Any licensed travel agency/agent can get the AMEX perks for their client.  The requirement is that the client must have used their Platinum or Centurion true AMEX card to pay for the cruise.  Our TA is not an AMEX approved agency/agent and we have received our perks on every cruise that qualifies.

Oceania is very very adamant in saying certain benefits, especially prepaid gratuities are not combinable wiith Amex Platinum onboard credit. IME they mean it..no way to add it back.
