Which deck for (VF) Nieuw Amsterdam, Holland America Line

Recommended Posts

Never been on Holland America before and plan on taking an Eastern Caribbean cruise and choose a balcony for the first time (we've ONLY ever booked inside cabins).

We've been quoted a Verandah Stateroom (VF) and I think the only available ones are on the 4th or 8th deck and I think the front or back of the ship (sorry not the correct terms).

I always like to prefer to be lower in the ship (like 8th deck) as it tends to be less movement than upper but is there any benefit to be up higher instead from a balcony view perspective?

Thanks!

VF on Deck 4 will have solid steel balconies.  The ones on Deck 8 will be Glass, so better for viewing.  Also deck 8 is higher than Deck 4.

If you are on Deck 4 in VF I believe you are on top of the theatre so be prepared for music noise from shows, afternoon and late night rehearsals. I would avoid that location...very small extra cost to move to next category and get away from Deck 4 forward.

We were on deck 10 of the NS - way up high, and we definitely felt "the motion of the ocean"...

We have cruised in a VF on deck 8 and were happy with it.  I enjoyed the views from the higher level its proximity to the Lido pool and restaurant.  I planned to go to a public space on deck 2 or 3 if seas became rough but it wasn't necessary.

Overall we would book this cabin again.

We got deck 8, so I'm pleased with everyone's feedback, especially the mention that the balcony was clear (see through) on deck 8!
