Hello! We have the opportunity to book the Sun for this weekend as a quick getaway. It’s an all inclusive cruise and should run us $430 pp with gratuity’s added. Neither of us have have sailed with Norwegian before. Is the Sun worth it? Are the all inclusive sailings worth it? or is the bar a long wait? Or there any hidden fees once we get on board regarding the drinks?

Thanks!!

What is and is not worth it is going to be incredibly up to you.  NCL scores low in service and food quality, but higher in entertainment and a more free-for-all atmosphere.  If you want to go and just relax without a plan, and are comfortable just getting by on your own, it's pretty swell, but if you are used to a more luxury vacation, you will be disappointed.

I have been on the all inclusive sailings and the regular sailings with the beverage package.  The all inclusive sailings have a smaller bar menu and use more pre-made cocktails than normal sailings, and just like the normal package, not everything is included.  With that being said, I find that the drink lines are shorter on the all inclusives, since you can just ask for a beer or a quick drink and get it without having to wait for card swipes.  What bar you go to will also matter quite a bit, the pool bars with frozen drinks will have much longer queues than an inside bar that lacks a blender.  What you order will also matter, if the bartenders get to know you as a beer or wine or pre-made drinker, and you tip, you will likely never wait, but if you are always ordering a multiple layered frozen drink, well. . .

There are two drink related fees to look out for.  The first is that not everything is included, on the Sun there will be a bar menu where some drinks have prices and some don't.  Anything that doesn't have a price is free, anything that does have a price - that is the price you pay.  There is now a second tier drink package you can add that may alter that dynamic, but I know little about it.  The second is that you will pay tax on drinks while in the US.  This is usually less than $1 per drink, and will end as soon as you get 12 miles out of port (so around 6'ish), so it's not a huge concern, but some people are a little shocked by it.  Any souvenir drinks that allow you to keep the glass will also have an up-charge.
