She's making 20 knots off Cabo. May be a reference to a previous fire.

Sounds like it's already put out and all is well  We had a fire happen on our first cruise on the Royal and it thankfully was put out quickly.  But it was a nervous 20 minutes or so.

Fires in the incinerator room is a fairly common occurrence, and typically quickly contained.  The fire is in the "silo" where the shredded paper/cardboard is stored prior to introducing it into the incinerator at night (can't burn the incinerator in port).  If the crew have not done the garbage sorting well, a steel object (I've known an AA battery to do this) that passes through the shredder will create a spark, and this can ignite the several cubic meters of material just waiting to be burned.  The silos will have a steam smothering device to fight the fire, and in most cases, simply starting the incinerator and sending the smoldering/burning material into the incinerator deals with the problem.

As always, thanks for your expertise. A fire is fairly common is a scary thought. That the problem is mostly easily dealt with is somewhat comforting.

This incident was on the REGAL the first week of April. The captain was great about keeping everyone informed about the incident. Facts: smoke was seen in one of the incinerator rooms. Fire control team immediately dispatched. A battery somehow was not found in the sorting process before items were put in the incinerator; this is what caused the smoke. Any fire in the incinerator was immediately put out. At no time were passengers or crew in any danger. Kudos to the captain (and of course the crew) for frequent updates after the initial notice came over the PA system.

I thought it was important to post this as false rumors can take on a life of their own on internet forums!

On Facebook. The home of Fake News.

Forums seem to be better at sorting out the nonsense.
