Baltic cruise Difference between Warnemunde and Rostock

Recommended Posts

We are looking at a Baltic Cruise on NCL and there are two itineraries for the Escape. Identical except one docks in Warnemunde and one docks in Rostock. The Itinerary docking in Rostock is very slightly higher in price. Is one preferred over the other?

Thanks!

Are you sure the ship actually docks at Rostock?  Warnemunde is where the larger ships usually dock.  Rostock is further down river, reached by a ferry.  Warnemunde is extremely pretty, interesting to stroll and go to the beach.  Rostock is a university town, also very interesting and worth booking a walking tour.  More history there.

Yes, sure its Rostock. All cruises in 2020 go to Warnemunde but this one. These dates work best, but was wondering if it was a good itinerary with the change in port.

As previously mentioned, Rostock was very interesting and we enjoyed our walking tour there, from churches to city parks.  Lots of cafes and bars.  If you like the rest of the itinerary as well, go for it..  This one different port is just as good as Warnemunde.

We're looking at both of these cruises as well, and had the same question- thanks for asking it! I'm still hoping they will offer something similar to the Spirit itineraries for this coming summer... 15 days out of Southampton or Stockholm. Those are perfect for us in all but the timing (summer '19 versus '20).

Great to know! Thank you.

It's funny you say that, as we are hoping of the same, but want to reserve this so we have something we want to see. This looks like a great itinerary and Ive heard great things about the Escape. We are still holding out that the rest of the 2020 itineraries will show in the next 2 weeks. Last year they showed up early May.

That's what I'm counting on! That doesn't stop me from checking every day like clockwork, though. 🙂

here you can see  a pic of Warnemünde cruise port. Warnemünde has a beach and is nice to walk around and a train station ist near to the port. warnemünde belongs to rostock and is a tourist hot spot.

here a pic of rostock port more industrial and used by ferries, never been there. it is deeper inside, you can see the cruise port warnemünde.

I would prefer the cruise port in warnemünde. ( but i think it is not the main reason to book a cruise or not ).

Actually Warnemünde is a part of the city of Rostock. Warnemünde is the main port for cruise ships but sometimes they have to dock in Rostock (when all docking spots are already booked). It doesn´t happen very often.

Here´s the port calls list by Rostock Port. You can see LP31 and LP41 as docks listed but pretty rarely - usually smaller ships. The Celebrity Reflection is the largest ship at LP31 but only once (in 2019, there´s no list for 2020 yet). P1 - P8 are Warnemünde.
