Mazatlan on Christmas Day

Recommended Posts

Our cruise ship docks in Mazatlan from 8am to 5pm on Christmas Day. We want to follow the blue line to see the historic downtown area and then take the ferry to Stone Island. Will anything be open on Christmas day? Will the water ferry be running to Stone Island on Christmas day? How far is the walk from the cruise ship to the downtown area? Also, how to catch the water ferry to Stone Island? How long is the ride to Stone Island and how often do they run? Thanks!!!

It's about a mile from the ship to Plazuela Machado where the Blue Line ends. If you want to get to the Cathedral, you will need to walk a few more blocks up and a few blocks to the right. The Cathedral is in front of another Plaza. If you want to go to the Mercado, it is another 2 blocks up from the Cathedral.

Check google maps. Most of the Blue Line follows Carnaval street.

Several years ago, our ship visited PV on Christmas Day.  I had been assured "the merchants all know that a cruise ship is visiting, and everything will be open for the passengers."  I was surprised to find that the shops were all closed much of the day.  Now, that was PV and it was years ago.  Maybe someone with more recent info as to Mazatlán will chime in.

There is lots of info on the water taxi to Stone Island on this Forum.  It is a short walk from the pier.  Turn left onto the street as you exit the pier terminal area.  When the street veers to the right, continue going straight on the dirt road.  You will see the ticket booth a short way forward.  As to whether it runs on Christmas, I have no info.

I do not know if the bars/restaurants on Stone Island will be open on Christmas Day.
