On Board Credit Use/Prepaid Gratutities....

Recommended Posts

As part of our booking, we got $50 on board credit (OBC). We went ahead and prepaid our gratuities as well with our credit card. In the rare event we only spend $25 on board. Can we remove $25 from gratuities and then use our remaining $25 OBC to replenish what we took off of gratuities?

More than likely, we'll spend the $50, but we're not drinkers and we're not gamblers...we tend to buy a couple photos and that's about it.....

Anyone with experience on this, let me know. Thanks in advance.

No, you cannot remove part of the prepaid gratuities.

Could I remove all of the gratuities, use my OBC to pay them and then repay with credit card?

I don't think you want to remove the gratuities,  but the prepayment of them,  correct?   I think you have to call Celebrity for that.

We like to prepay gratuities in advance as it's one less thing to worry about.....many times we don't spend too much money on a cruise ship. A couple photos and that's about it.....it's my understanding that if we dont use the OBC that our TA gave us, it does away.....

I thought....ok fine.....remove the tips.....OBC can be used to pay tips (at least on other lines you can)....and then pay the gratuities again minus the OBC we didn't use. Make sense? Is that kosher?

If you do not pre pay the gratuities and wait until you are on board they will be charged to your account daily and will offset the OBC.  At the end of the cruise you will have a balance on your account that will be charged to your credit card.

OBC from a travel agent is usually refundable if not spent and will be credited to your credit card. It also usually cannot be used before the cruise.

Yes, it is kosher to remove the prepaid gratuities and use the OBC to offset them while you are cruising.

From the Celebrity website FAQ

Gratuity Program
Q.

What is Celebrity’s automatic gratuity program?

A.

For your convenience, we automatically add gratuities for your restaurant and stateroom services to your onboard SeaPass® account on a daily basis in the following amounts, which may be adjusted at your discretion:

  • $14.50 per person, per day in standard accommodations
  • $15.00 per person, per day in Concierge Class and AquaClass® staterooms
  • $18.00 per person, per day in suites

This gratuity is shared by your stateroom attendant, dining services staff, and housekeeping staff members who help enhance your vacation experience. At your discretion, the gratuity payments may be adjusted onboard at Guest Relations, in which case they will not automatically be added to your onboard SeaPass® account. A 20% gratuity will be automatically added to all beverages, mini bar purchases, spa and salon services. Additional gratuities may be added at your discretion.

Can I removed the pre paid grats that the TA gave us, then

use the OBN to pay them , thereby cashing out the PP grats.?

Yes you should be able to do.   When they apply the daily Gratuities to your account they apply them first to Non-Refundable OBC's the remainder would be charged to your cc.
