Cruises to Cuba

While I don't have a dog in the fight (my next cruise isn't until November...and Cuba isn't/wasn't on the itinerary), I have to say that I am really surprised by Carnival's less than adequate (IMHO) handling of this situation....especially, in light of how their competition is responding to the same scenario.

 

Historically, I have sailed almost exclusively with Carnival due to their willingness to make things right when bad things occur.  In my personal experience, they have usually gone above and beyond when the proverbial feces hit the oscillator.  

 

Hopefully, this isn't an indication of how they're going to handle this type of situation in the future.

We are also sailing September, 2020. I checked the Carnival website this afternoon and our itinerary has been changed from Cuba and Key West to Nassau and Princess Cay.  The rate we booked to go to Cuba is a premium rate to make Nassau the port of call. I'll be watching for a decrease in rates on what is now a Bahama cruise! ☹️

Exactly ...... it’s simply sad and surprising at the same time. Enough so to me to not only cancel this cruise and next years out of spite over it ..... Am I bitter? Yes, to a degree.

I was reading an article about Cuba cruises.  The article suggested cruise lines charge an additional 30% (CCL), 50% (NCL), and 70% (RCCL) premium for Cuba cruises.  Not sure how accurate the percentages are?

Greetings all , been a very long time since I sailed carnival. 

Friends of mine were booked on the 8/17 Cuba and were certainly bummed .. 

im not sure what their current offer is but I must tell you last night I was curious to the rates for adjusted ports and saw very little change.from what they paid 

This am I looked and I had a crazy offer for casino (was not there yesterday ) rate I could not pass .. so I booked ..  the nutty things are 

1 I haven’t sailed in years

2 when I did I used to play in casino but never got comped for anything big, really if I want to gamble I go to Vegas 

It might mean they are experiencing some fallout ...

anyway looking forward to sailing ccl again

Since I believe cruise contracts state that they can change ports of call if necessary, I believe they probably did not have to offer anything, including refunds.  So, I am very happy that I was able to cancel and get a refund of my deposit.  However, if Carnival had offered what some other cruise lines offered - a 50% refund, plus a 50% credit for a future cruise, I would not have cancelled, and I would have gone ahead with my cruise, even though it was going somewhere I was not interested in visiting.  I could still relax and enjoy the ship, the food, the shows, etc.  I'm very disappointed that I won't get to visit Cuba, but there is nothing I can do about it except find another interesting place to visit instead.  Maybe some day - - - !

I was waiting at the FLL airport on May 11 to fly home when I started talking two a mother and son who had just finished their Carnival cruise to Cuba that same day and were flying home also.  The mother told me that she had to take her own toilet tissue off the ship to use in the restrooms in Cuba.  I was shocked.  They said it was beautiful but very sad.

I understand the frustration, but there are others beautiful places in the Caribbean to go on cruises.

My DH still have family there, we can go if we want to 

But because we know the real Cuba is a BIG NO for us.

Believe it or not some people travel to see interesting/unique places, not just to relax at a resort
