D+ and Concierge Lounge access on Mariner

Just off Mariner last week. We (and most of the Pinnacles on board) preferred the DL to the SL on Mariner.  The DL has a nicer layout than the SL (IMHO) and one of the best Concierges (Tao).   They even had hot dishes for breakfast (don't see that often) in the morning and always lots of little sandwiches and cookies mid day.  (most ships have just cookies or nothing).

Best time to go into DL was at "magic hour" which is what I call first seating dining time.  Really clears out then.  They also did an overflow at the VCL bar just outside the door.  Bartender there was serving drinks without running vouchers.  Worked well for us, enjoyed the cruise.  Bartender in DL (Eartha) was fantastic.  🙂

Glad to see they have put the bar back into the DL on Mariner.  They had removed it and only had servers running drinks from a pantry bar down the hall in September.

Thanks - TAO was the nicest and most pro  active concierge we've met in a long time.     We'll make it a point to stop in on our upcoming mariner B2B to meet both concierges.

Thanks again

She is the same, stopped and talked to every single person in the lounge, ever night.  Just the sweetest person ever.  By far our favorite Concierge in all the years of our cruising

Last time we were on Mariner in March, Grecia was the DL concierge and Tao was the SL concierge.   We know him also, both are fantastic.

We enjoyed Tao on the Kinda Global Odyssey

Looking forward to seeing him end of June

We don’t go to the lounge for the drinks, we enjoy talking with frequent cruisers & have made many cruising friends throughout the years, so it’s nice to meet up with them once again in the lounge. You don’t get that sitting at a bar.

I've met lots of fun people in the bars, the pool, etc. Not everyone in the lounge is someone I want to hang out with.

As far as 'like minded people'

Most folks on a cruise like to cruise😉

You are not required to use the lounge for a drink.  Your vouchers will work at most if not all   bars/venues on the ship. No need to sit in a crowded lounge.

Exactly.  I personally think that Royal is not giving the DL any thought whatsoever and won’t make any changes to it.  They’ve provided an alternative, if people want to squabble over seats, let them.

Sorry, don’t like hanging out at bars.

Tao was the suite concierge on our February Mariner ( from Miami) cruise.  I hope he is back  for our upcoming June  Mariner cruise and if I use a lounge at all,  it will likely be the one where he is located.   Thanks for the heads up.

You are most welcome.  Agree...we thought Tao was one of the best DL concierges we have had.  Hope he is still on again when we return in January.  🙂

The bar is a folding table that Eartha set up with the bottles, etc. near the door to the outside (rock wall area) every day around 2 pm.  She served drinks from there, and when it was not so busy, she came by the tables to take orders and serve you.   Half the time we just walked up to her at the temporary bar to order.  VCL bar is just steps outside the DL and was serving drinks there as well, and as overflow to the DL.  It all worked out quite well.

When I was on in September they were experimenting with no bar in the DL.

There were only servers taking orders and going down the hall with trays to fulfill those orders.  People without seats found it very hard to get a drink in the DL.  The bar in the VCL was not overflow and was swiping cards and using your HH drink coupons.

The result was that if you went to the DL early and got a seat, you could drink without using HH coupons.   If you didn't have a seat in the DL it was very hard to order a drink in the DL forcing you into the VCL to use a coupon.

I had a discussion with the concierge at that time.  That was the intention.

I'm glad to see they have returned to a more common DL experience.

Yes, Tao is male.  There were two concierges mentioned and the thread conversation got a little mixed up.  Tao and Grecia are apparently the concierges on Mariner.

Grecia is female.

I was on 3 weekends in May. Tao was in the DL and Nadja in the SL.

Nadja is from the Navigator. She spoke to EVERY single person in the SL EVERY night.

Loved her on the Navigator when it was a 9 night cruise.

Met Tao on my May 10th. He remembered me from last year when I was on the first week out of refurb in Miami. Nice man.

I know he is a man.  I was talking about Grecia and how amazing she was.  Never saw a Concierge talk to her guests the way she did.  She was amazing and cannot wait to see her on Navigator again later this year.

They were.  Grecia moved to Navigator and brought her to Miami, now she is on vacation now and then will go back to Navigator.

Tao is her perfect match in the DL, as he did the same thing.  Always circulated the room, lots of energy, very nice man.  Pleasant to talk to .  🙂

Tao was a fantastic DL concierge on our May 20/May 24 B2B Mariner cruise.  He took care of our needs and the DL was extremely well run. They even had small sandwichs and cookies on Boarding Day.  Tao escorted us off the ship for the B2B re-boarding and it was very, very efficient.

Eartha was a great bar server.  The DL was not heavily used especially before Second Seating.  Beautiful lounge -- floor to ceiling windows.

An Oasis class ship was sailing by and Tao called the bridge to check which ship -- it was Symphony that was splitting the week with 2 Nassau/CocoCay cruises.

Anyone have pics of the SL on the Mariner?

Obviously, nothing like what's on the Oasis or Allure (ships I'm familiar with).

Thanks,

Tom

Also look for photos of the SL on Indy, Liberty, and Adventure, same area.
