Anthem of the seas rescue footage

Recommended Posts

News article of someone being rescued for a medical condition.  Footage of the air lift is included both from inside and from another helo.  Thankfully the Coast Guard is there to help.

Generally referred to as a “medical evacuation”, rather than a rescue.

😊

Yes, it was amazing to see.

We had a Coast Guard Medivac in August off the coast of Connecticut.  Blood was badly needed for Pax and the Heli made a few tries and finally was able to drop a MD or EMS personnel.  Later hoisted the Pax off the Anthem.

doesn't this ship have a helipad? If there is, why didn't it land? Just too windy?

Even if a ship has a helipad, which Anthem does have, it is used to hoist only as it would be much more dangerous for the helicopter to land on a moving, as in up and down as well as forward motion ship.

Sometimes it is better for the helicopter to hoist or winch from an upper deck depending on conditions.

In the shot below the Anthem's helipad is clearly marked with WINCH ONLY.

It has nothing to do with the fact that the ship is moving. We practice on moving ships all the time. In fact when you do deck qual landings you do it on a moving ship. The issue is weight. The last helicopter I was qualified on, the HH-60M (Medevac) can weigh 17,000-22,000lbs depending on the mission. That's may too heavy for most landing pads at sea and land unless they were purposely built for military helicopters. A civilian medevac helicopter weighs about 3,500-5,000 lbs to put in perspective.

Thank you. I have always wondered why.
