Flight Ease - upgrading with miles?

Recommended Posts

For Vancouver to Tokyo in the spring 2020 we were going to use Delta miles and fly business class. But the Flight Ease economy prices are very compelling and perhaps we could save some miles.

How easy is it to upgrade to business class with miles? When does this need to be done?

TIA

I don't think that using miles is an option.   When you book with Flight Ease,  HAL is acting like a bulk fare agent for you.   Any use of airline miles for the basic ticket would be between you and the airline and HAL does not get involved.  However, once you are booked in economy with Flight Ease, you will get a airline record locator and you can log into the airline's website and select seats.   At that point, they MAY allow you to upgrade to premium economy or business class.   But that is very iffy.   The fares that HAL gets on international flights are very good, and the airline may not be too happy about you getting a super cheap fare and using miles to sit in the front cabin, when they could sell that seat for cash to somebody else.

It is a function of what bucket HAL pulls that bulk fare from Delta.  Certain fare buckets have restrictions.
