6/14-17 Sun Owner’s Suite Review

Recommended Posts

My husband, daughter, and I just returned from a quick weekend getaway on the Sun in the owner’s suite. We booked this sailing on impulse when realizing (in 2018) that our next cruise was not until December 2019. We needed something to tide us over! Our 2017 cruise was the first time that we were in the Haven and we were completely spoiled. The Sun doesn’t have a Haven, so I knew I needed a sweet suite! The owner’s suite certainly fit the bill with its big balcony with hot tub! Boarding in Port Canaveral was smooth as always and we were treated by our concierge, Gian. I cannot say enough good things about him. We don’t use the concierge services heavily, but Gian checked on us numerous times, both in the suite and during dinner, moved a dinner reservation for us, talked us into attending the Captains cocktail party, and escorted us off at ports. Our butler, Rodwin, was a rockstar! He brought us snacks, showed up one evening (without request) to bring our daughter special treats, serving us breakfast on our balcony, and he was on Great Stirrup Cay to escort us to and from our villa and do other butler things for us! And about that villa...can I just say how awesome it was?! We got quite a deal at $350, but just booked it for our December cruise at $699, because it was just THAT good! In Nassau, my daughter and I stayed on the ship, enjoying that awesome balcony and hot tub, while my hubby did a private scuba excursion. While I wish the cruise was longer (of course), it really was the perfect vacation! I was a little apprehensive about going on the Sun, but the smaller ship meant no crowded elevators and extremely attentive service for suites guest. I wouldn’t hesitate to book it again!

We did the owners suite on the Sun years ago (it spoiled us, that's for sure)...! 🙂 We'll be doing this suite again next year...and really looking forward to it...! 🙂 Any chance you've got some pics of the suite you can share...?  Would love to see what it looks like post-refurbishment...! 🙂

I also wanted to add that our daughter has celiac and NCL was very accommodating. I lost all anxiety when telling them she was gluten free and the response was “is she gluten free or celiac?” They totally understand the difference! Each evening she planned her meals for the next day. She chose whatever she felt like eating, regardless of whether it was on the menu or not. Only once were they unable to accommodate her request as is- they did not have GF flour tortillas and no  rice flour to make them. They talked to the chef and he made the quesadillas with corn tortillas instead. Not the same, but my extremely picky child ate them!

Thank you for your review. We are booked on the Sky in the Owners Suite and was wondering if they did a good job on the refurb. We were booked to go to Cuba so we will be getting another cruise. I might consider booking the Sun since we live in west Palm Beach. I think I’ll book the weekend cruise since we are booked on the four day on the Sky. I’ve been in the Owners Suite on Carnival and had concierge service but never butler service. Really looking forward to it. I happen to like the smaller older quieter ships.

Oh my!  That OS on the NCL Sun!  It really should be designated a DOS!

We had that for our Alaska cruise a few years ago.  We booked late, so someone must have cancelled (and we got a great rate!)

We were fortunate to have the starboard side OS, on the NB sailing.  In many places, it doesn't make that much difference, but it's a one-way sailing, and the section after Glacier Bay... thet WIDE view from the balcony... and the snow-covered mountains off to the starboard side!

And although the bed is set back a bit, there is still a great view through that little room (closet? dressing room?).

That was our FAVORITE suite ever!  There are similar on the Oceania cruises we take, but the prices are much higher... although we've noticed NCL has increased the pricing of the Sun OS quite a bit recently, it seems.

Your photos bring back such memories.  Our trip was pre-refurb, but otherwise, it was all just the same

We had the same thing happen on our very first NCL cruise 15 years ago...!  It was in the days before the whole "bidding" process came about...our TA was contacted 5 days before departure (there must have been a cancellation) and offered to upgrade to the OS from our mini-suite for a phenomenally low amount...!  Needless to say, we jumped at the chance...!  We had the port side, but the scenery was still incredible from there...and the weather was absolutely perfect the whole time...!  And the suite itself, of course, was fabulous...!  Our only disappointment was that it was "only" a 7 day cruise...!   No surprise...from that point forward, we were spoiled...and have booked an OS every time since...!

We'll be back in the same suite in 2020 for an 11-day Alaska cruise--can't wait...! 🙂

Those cabin pix were taken post renovation (dry dock) upgraded furniture carpet and lighting.

Glass top dining and cocktail tables - new picture on wall above convertible sofa bed.

Bedding covers and pillow covers new with bright contrasting details.

The deck furniture was also upgraded.

What is really strange you are walking down the passageway to this cabin and all the doors are

clustered together where 1203 is - how could this cabin be of the size it is - take a browse of the

floor plan and see the pie shape interior - the entry door being at the point (lower left corner of image).

The foyer has connecting doors to cabins on both sides and a 2nd commode and sink in that foyer.

^^^^^^^ April cruise to Cuba....

Bride and I were booked in 1204, SIL & BIL booked in OS 1203. Two days prior to departure, BIL had an accident and was told he shouldn't take the chance of cruising, especially to Cuba. Unfortunately they couldn't make the cruise. SIL tried desperately to transfer the cabin to us. She is a high-roller on NCL and they wouldn't budge. She lost all fees and they resold it. On the last morning we got a chance to view it. Nice cabin, but not worth the upgrade to us. Our adjoining cabin met our needs, and then some. I really liked that it was on the same deck that I spent most of my time on, ie; spa, pool, aft dining area, etc.

Wow.  That's one heck of a deal!  I never seem to find the suites at that price point.  🙂  Nice!

Great review, about to leave for a weekend getaway on the Sun out of Port Canaveral. Booked an Aft suite but I was curious if there is a seperate check-in for suites like the Miami port? Were you escorted to Cagneys when you boarded?

Yes, there is a separate area. It is on the left side, all the way towards the back. Check in at Canaveral is quick and easy and they escort you to Cagney’s for a great lunch!

We stayed in the Pearl OS Cabin 15000 in April and it was wonderful and almost identical.  Liked it so much we upgraded to the same cabin on Jade for a 21-day in November. Can't wait to be spoiled again!

We have an aft suite on the Sun the end of may and am looking forward to it, Both OS were booked but are "available" for bidding, maybe because someone might cancel?

I was not going to bid but maybe I should just in case?
