I hear people buying  gift cards and use it  to pay for the cruise and onboard credits. What’s the benefit. Is there a place to purchase them Discounted.

Yes. Several programs (like the AARP and All-State ones) sell the cards at around an 8-10% discount from face value, depending on how you calculate in the shipping charges.

I use the AARP Rewards for good.  10% off gift cards using points earned from reading articles, taking quizzes and entering promo codes that you receive in daily email.  Points add up quickly.  Card denominations are in $100 and $500.  Cards usually arrive within a week of ordering.

It's a good deal to save 10% as previous posters have mentioned.

I will play devil's advocate for a moment.

Its is a great deal but remember if you have to cancel you are reimbursed with gift cards.

We had to cancel due to a family emergency once. I had paid with $2000.00 worth of gift cards.

It was quite a while before we could plan another vacation and that $2000 would have came in handy

instead of sitting in my drawer in gift cards.

Like I said they are a great deal but things can happen and I just wanted to put it out there.

Note; I was only out $1600 in real dollars.

That’s why we wait to buy the gift cards until our final payment date is closer. We save the money used to buy the gift cards, but if something happens, we still have the money. Then we give ourselves enough time to purchase the cards/have them shipped (since the e-cards haven’t been available).

Granted, something can still happen between final payment date and sail date, after we’ve bought the cards. Then we’d be in the same situation you were. But when we’re that close to sail date, it’s worth the risk to save hundreds of dollars

I agree    We still buy them,  I just like to inform newbies of this possibility .  I never thought of it until it happened to us. I still think it's a great deal.  I love free money!!!!

I'm right there with you. And I agree, it's good to let everyone know of the possible risks. I had someone on the forum give me the advice of waiting to buy them till later, so as not to have a lot of money tied up in gift cards, and we've been doing just that ever since. Now I like to pass it on when I can. I know most people will just buy them because they know they'll use the cards eventually, maybe sooner rather than later, but I like to put the option out there that they can hold off.

I am never organized enough to pay my deposit with a GC, but I do usually pay my final balance with one.  I also pay for my CHEERS, pre-paid gratuities, internet plan, my kid's soda package and usually a case of water with a GC.  When on the ship, I add gift cards onto our account, and then everything we do, even gamble is at that 10% off.  I also do the "casino trick" and take money out to use at ports.  Just remember that if you leave any money on the card when the cruise is over, under a certain $ amount they will refund you on a GC.

I have about a large amount on GC's for this Alaskan Cruise....I'm paying for an excursion and the rest is gambling …...If I have anything left in the end it pays toward the next cruise!

I don't get mine for a discount. But when Kroger does 4X fuel points I will buy one. I don't use them to pay for my cruise. I use them to apply to our account for on-board credit. Even if our cruise were to be canceled, I could save the GCs for a future cruise. It's nice to have a few hundred bucks on our account when we board the ship. I buy them every few months. It's almost like doing layaway for our cruise alcohol. 🤣😂🍻🍹

We are using the ones from Allstate. Cruise price and tips/internet is around $2200. I buy 22 ($100.00)cards...and save $220.00 on my cruise. I usually buy them one at a time when I get paid...and just apply to my account. I will also buy a few extra to put on my sign and sail account for misc expenses.

If you have a Citibank credit card that’s eligible for Citi Easy Deals you can get the discounted cards there without doing quizzes or incurring shipping charges.
