Transportation options from Fort Lauderdale Hyatt 17th Street

Just booked 3 rooms for 10 of us at the Hyatt on 17th Street pre cruise. We will be arriving early so want to do some sight seeing or maybe go to the beach area. Do you think we need a couple of rental cars or is it easy to get around that area?  Don’t want to spend a lot on Uber’s back and forth since there are 10 of us. Also saw the sun trolley but not sure if it’s near the Hyatt. Suggestions?

Hyatt on 17th is not near a beach, but you can hop on the Sun Trolley where it stops at the shopping center, in front of Publix, just a short walk front the hotel. Be sure get a copy of the trolley schedule, become familiar with its route. Beaches are along A1A, well after you go over the bridge. Price out rental cars, too. That will give you greater freedom to come and go on your time schedule.

I did see the water taxi but I did not think it was cheap. The website said $28 a person and with 10 people that will add up to more then getting 2 rental cars. Thanks for the idea though.

The Sun Trolley website (www.suntrolley.com) has route maps.  They also have a mobile app to track the trolley.  They charge $1/ride or $3/day pass (cash only) for the Beach and Las Olas routes; there Riverwalk Water Trolley across the New River is free.
