denmarks #1 Posted July 7 What do you recommend for a male to carry when visiting a port that can hold items such as water, raincoat, umbrella, snacks, etc.? I have a messenger bag to use for carry on items. Would you use something like that? It does have a shoulder strap.
clo #2 Posted July 7 My husband has something similar to this. And the message is perfect 🙂 https://www.amazon.com/Canvas-School-Work-Messenger-Shoulder/dp/B00HDUFRNU

mom says #7 Posted July 7 Depends on the cruise and type of excursion. For cities and towns/ general sightseeing tours, DH carries a messenger bag very similar to the Timbuk2 classic. For the beach, hikes, or other outdoor excursions he just takes a lightweight nylon backpack that folds up small for easy packing.
clo #8 Posted July 7 I meant to comment also that that bag - his isn't that exact one - is also his carry on bag.

LoriPhil #13 Posted July 7 DH has backpack for excursions, which is perfect for water, light jacket, guides etc. For scenic excursions he can also carry binoculars, which are definitely not going in my purse 😉
keywest1 #14 Posted July 7 DH also has a light weight backpack for water, towels, etc. My crossbody wallet is generally in there as well since I have been known to leave my purse more than once or twice.
cb at sea #15 Posted July 8 Hubby carries nothing...I carry it all...so therefore, we don't take anything I don't want to carry. For beach excursions, I carry a tote with towels, sunscreen, book, etc.... For simply touring or shopping, I carry my purse. We don't bring much else. Almost EVERY port has drinks for sale, so we don't carry water, umbrellas, raincoats, etc......If it's raining, I don't go!
spookwife #16 Posted July 8 Mr spook has two different size Camelbacks. Fill the bladder with ice conveniently provided by the cabin steward then top off with water. Everything else fits inside or in cargo pockets,, both he and I have the convertible pants that zip off at the knee and lots of pockets.

Regarding rain, I bought this rain poncho a year or so ago and absolutely love it. And it has a little drawstring bag that it will actually fit back into. And, at my husband's suggestion, on our last cruise, I carried it as a purse equivalent on the ship. Held key card, lip balm, camera, etc. https://www.joulesusa.com/Women/Accessories/French-Navy-Dog/Poncho/Showerproof-Packaway?id=Y_PONCHO My husband carries his umbrella.

Ashland #20 Posted July 8 DH carries a light weight backpack (when needed)....nothing of value in it. I carry the $$, credit card and our ID's in my crossbody bag. Many travels and so far this has worked for us.

Velvetwater #22 Posted July 8 (edited) lightweight black backpack or soft 'messenger bag'. It's pretty normal for men to carry bags where I live...even older males. Not sure why it should be a worry. My husband uses both of these each week. Edited July 8 by Velvetwater
Krazy Kruizers #23 Posted July 8 DH always takes a back pack when we go ashore. It can hold our bottles of water, small umbrells if we know there is rain in the forecast, my camera, etc.
