Help Highland Oatcakes

Recommended Posts

I have been given a box of Highland Oatcakes. The serving suggestion on the box shows an Oatcake with a lump of cheese and a slice of tomato, there is not even any butter on the Oatcake.

Any other suggestion for topping please?

I love us Brits. We're discussing the potential outbreak of WW3 on the next thread. Now it's the crisis of what to put on oatcakes, lol.Go against the grain and experiment.

Savoury with cream cheese and smoked salmon or pate with cranberry sauce.

Sweet with banana and homemade toffee sauce or peanut butter or use to make a crumble over an apple or rhubarb crumble.

I always have a few boxes in the house as they make a great base for endless quick dishes and they are relatively healthy (depending on the topping).

IME, anything you wish. Personally I prefer savoury over sweet but both work.

Anything you enjoy with bread will work on oatcakes. Enjoy.

My way of consuming Highland Oatcakes:

Throw in bin and get some proper biscuits.

That is not really a topping but then ...more of a tipping.😋

Yeah, but when you run out,you can fold the cardboard box and eat that as an extra one.Seriously though, what do you call a proper biscuit. Not rich tea, yuk.

McVities Plain Chocolate Digestive, of course. Is there anything to match that?

Thanks for the suggestions. I would have preferred to be given Staffordshire Oatcake, as I know what to put on them.

As for biscuits I enjoy any type of ginger biscuit

Not sure if you get Ginger Nuts there but they are one of my favourites.

We invented them in the 1800s.

I thought they may have come over with the Vikings.

Across the pond, I'll take either plain or milk chocolate McVities, if we can find them 😀

Bummer, I have been doing it all wrong, I thought is was from drinking heavily and pickling myself, thereby preserving my organs for prosperity (like Keith Richards).

What is a Staffordshire oatcake? Genuinely never heard of them and what would you put on them.
