Disembarking Empress of the Seas

Recommended Posts

I'm sailing on the 8-night Eastern Caribbean on the Empress.  We return to port in Miami at 7:00am on a Saturday.  I am looking at scheduling a 9:47am flight that same day out of Miami (MIA) .  Does anyone have knowledge or experience with the length of time it takes getting of Empress ?  Or information about how long it takes to make it by cab from the port to MIA Airport?  Thanks.

About 15 min, but the timing of your flight is a bit tight. You'd be leaving the port at about 7:45 the earliest (assuming walk off with luggage and very early in line). @John&LaLa may have very recent info.

Not familiar with Empress but that would be way out of my comfort zone for Miami in general.

For one thing, the scheduled docking time is 7 but it will likely be later than that that you can actually get off the ship. Airlines also often cutoff baggage check in 30-45 minutes before your flight, so you'd have to be off the ship and at the airport by 9 at the absolute latest. If anything at all goes wrong I think you'd miss your flight.

We get off Sunday, I'll report on walk off situation.

Lived in Miami Springs next to the airport for many years.  Not in my wildest days would I have tried to do what you are planning.  What if ship docks late, traffic according to friend who still lives in Miami is a nightmare 7 days a week.  Getting out of the port traffic to get to expressway could be a big challenge not to mention getting from LeJune Road into the airport and winding your way to your terminal/gate area used to be a major feat.  Maybe you could book Marine 1 and make it.

Self assist started around 7:45. Moved very fast. Red tags got off around 8:00, but luggage didnt get out until 8:20 or so. Customs was a breeze

Due to gangway issues with Terminal G, we got off at Terminal E, and shuttled to Terminal G garage. In the car around 8:45
