Anthem of the Seas - Review - Bermuda & Caribbean - June 20, 2019 - June 29, 2019

Friday 6/21/19 - At Sea - Continued

I went to the casino and played my favorite poker machine.  I hit a Royal Flush for $1,000 then a few other good hands.  I cashed out a little over $1,700.  Scott needs to go to the gym during the day more often.  This is the second time this happened; the same thing happened on our February cruise when Scott went to the gym mid-day.

I went back to the cabin and Scott was back from the gym.  He liked the decorations.  I spread out the money to show him my casino winnings.

The Happy Birthday sign I taped up fell and the two Y’s at the end of Happy and Birthday fell off and behind the couch which is bolted to the wall.  I taped it back up and it now says “Happ Birthda” with the missing Y’s.  We found it very amusing.

Scott brought back a birthday cake macaroon from the Patisserie on his way back from he gym.  It got a little crushed but was very good.  We are both very impressed with the macaroons from the Patisserie.

There were announcements that tonight’s shows are cancelled due to the weather and will be automatically rescheduled.  The outside pool is closed with a net over it.

We walked around the ship a bit.

We saw another funny animal, an Ape, in one of the elevators.

We hung out on our balcony for some time this afternoon.

The Happ Birthda sign kept falling down.  The tape wasn’t strong enough to hold it up.  Scott had a great idea to use the magnetic hooks I brought to hang the sign.  He took care of fixing that and the sign stayed up the rest of the trip.

We showered and got changed for the evening.

Even though it’s not his birthday yet, I had Scott pose with the decorations.

We wanted to get some pictures taken by the photographers by the Wonderland Chair. We had a great shot taken on our February cruise there.  We were off with our time.  We thought our phones/Fitbits would change time automatically but they didn’t.  We were wondering why the photographers weren’t at the chair since a sign said they would be.  We asked a guest to take a picture for us.  We also asked what time it was and it was an hour later than we thought.

We had dinner at Coastal Kitchen.

We both had the lobster salad appetizer.  We liked the dish but not the sauce.  It said it was a vanilla sauce but it tasted like mustard to us.  We enjoyed it and just ate around the sauce.

Amar brought us the chicken leg appetizer to share.  It’s not a like a regular chicken leg.  It’s an odd consistency so I wasn’t a big fan.  The flavor was good but the odd texture wasn’t for me.  Scott enjoyed it.

Amar would give us a “question of the day”.

We both had the crab and shrimp crusted pollock for our entree.  This was very good.

For dessert Scott had the mascarpone cheesecake.  I had Carrot Cake from the dining room.  Ever since we found out that we can have something from the dining room menu if we wanted to, we try to remember to check the menu on the TV to see if there is something we would prefer from there.

After dinner we went down to the Wonderland Chair and the photographers were out for their next session so we had some pictures taken.   This is the one we bought this time but I took a picture of the picture after it was already home and in a frame.

We went to the casino.  All of the slots are down (not working) in the casino.  They made a few announcements that they are working on it.  The tables were open so we played some three card poker and let it ride.  Scott plays tables most of the time and slots sometimes.  I’m the opposite and usually play poker slots with some tables mixed in.

We talked with one of the pit bosses (who was a dealer in February) for a while.  She suggested we try the Anthem transatlantic in April 2020.  I wasn’t sure if Scott would be interested since we would need to fly home and he isn’t a fan of flying but he was excited about the transatlantic.  I texted Brenda (friend and travel agent) asking about the sailing.  She texted back a little later to advise that there are no suites of any kind available so that ended that idea.

We stopped at the casino bar for drinks.  I had a coconut mojito and Scott had a Blue Hawaiian.

We went to see Matt Yee in the Schooner Bar at 9:30.  It was crowded; standing room only.  He was very funny.

BEED0D7C-4025-4CE5-8D7E-EB404ED1BD72.jpeg

We left at 10 to see DSB (Journey Tribute Band) in the Music Hall.

At 10:30 we went to the theater to see the late night comedy with Tom Foss (the same guy from last night).  We were surprised that 10:30 is considered late night.  He was very funny and we laughed out loud a few times.  Even Scott laughed and he isn’t always a fan of comedians.

We went back to the casino and played until 1:30 am.

Back in the cabin we had a towel animal but I can’t figure out what it is?

Scott wanted a snack so we ordered hot dogs from room service.

Enjoying the review! Great pictures.

It is not hard to guess what Scott's favorite island is!😊

Thank you - I enjoy writing them.

That’s so funny about his favorite island.  I had to go back and see what shirts he was wearing.  St Kitts is actually his favorite island.  He buys shirts from all the islands and they are usually the same style (often the same color, blue, his favorite color) but with the different island’s name.    When we sailed on Reflection (April 2018) someone commented in my review that it’s good that the shirts all had the different islands listed since Scott had a blue T shirt on in almost all the pictures (they were all different ones from different islands).  Since then I’ve been more conscious of reminding him to change the color once in a while.  Now I’m going to look to see that he’s mixing up the islands on the shirts too.  I can’t wait to tell him this.

Really enjoying your review so far. We will be sailing on the anthem for the first time in October and this has been really helpful. My husband will be celebrating his 40th on board and it never occurred to me to pack decorations so thank you for that!

Hi

Thank you.

Happy early birthday to your husband.

I ordered the decorations on Amazon.  They had tons of choices.

If you have any questions let me know and I’ll do my best to answer.

Saturday 6/22/19 - Bermuda

I went to the gym in the morning a little after 6.  Scott slept in planning to go later today.

I saw a different funny animal picture in the elevator today - a dog.

8998E4D4-220F-487D-AB9C-772C8AF67A20.jpeg

I walked the track outside to cool down after my workout.

CB33144E-8791-4EB6-B0FD-8C3EB2DC5289.jpeg

I stopped at the Patisserie and they remember my order already.

Back in the cabin we showered and changed.  We skipped breakfast today to get going.

37BF43FE-2DDE-414A-944E-7C125BBF980E.jpeg

There were huge lines for the horseshoe beach shuttle and also for cabs.  I wonder if there was a transportation strike or something going on.  I have never seen it like this before.  The shuttle line went all the way down the area.  We got in the taxi line instead as it was a little shorter, but we didn’t see any taxi’s coming.  After 15 minutes and not moving we changed our plans.

We decided to head over to Snorkel Park instead which we were able to walk right over to.

It was $5 each entry fee.  They have different types of chairs to rent.  We chose the ones that were $15 each (they were the more comfortable looking ones).  They had others for less.  They were not renting umbrellas due to the wind.

We found an area with some shade and that’s where we had our chairs set up.  I forgot to take a picture of our set up but our chairs were the ones like you see near the front of the first picture below.  The white base with the blue part you lay on (not the plastic slatted ones).

The Carnival Sunshine is in port with us.

We swam and snorkeled.

We met a couple who are on the Carnival Sunshine.  They said their sailing is 4 nights.  The wife said they usually cruise on Royal Caribbean, but this fit their schedule so they gave it a try.  She said the ride was rough for them over to Bermuda from NY and this is the first time in over 20 cruises she felt seasick.

While this beach doesn’t compare to Horseshoe Bay we still had a very nice time here.  We spent a decent amount of time swimming and snorkeling.

A little after 2 we changed out of our bathing suits and left snorkel park.

Saturday 6/22/19 - Bermuda - Continued

We went to the Bermuda Museum and Fort.

We did a lot of walking around and exploring here.

We spent some time watching the dolphins.

We continued wandering around and exploring.  The grounds are very big.

I had Scott laughing at me since there was an overhang type thing and all these sheep (or maybe they were goats) were hanging out under it probably to stay in the shade.  We heard a lot of music and I thought it was nice that they played music for the sheep.  Scott explained that the music was from the beach below (that we were able to see over the wall) for the people not the sheep.  He is amused by me since I’m pretty smart with many things, but sometimes come up with bizarre thoughts like the music for the sheep.

As we continued walking around Scott decided he may skip the gym today with all the wandering we’re doing here.  And he was carrying the beach bags.

We left the fort and headed back towards the ship.

We stopped in a store and bought a Christmas ornament.

Then we got back on the ship.

First, I have to tell you that your reviews are excellent and very helpful.

I will be on the Anthem this Sat for the 5 night to Bermuda.   I did a 4 night 2 years ago during the  America's cup.   At that time, there were day beds you could reserve around the bar near the North Star.  I had asked about this before on this site,  and people thought it was something limited to that time period, but on your cruise did you see day beds there and if so, did people reserve them?

Hi

Thank you

I did see the day beds there.  We didn’t pay much attention but think there was a sign about renting them.  It was possibly sponsored by a brand of champagne (or maybe you got a bottle of champagne with the day beds).  We didn’t spend time by the pool so don’t know if they were rented often.

I found two pictures that shows the sunbeds I think you mean in the background.

Saturday 6/22/19 - Bermuda - Continued

Once back on the ship we went directly to Cafe 270 for lunch.  We were starving having skipped breakfast.

I had a roast beef sandwich.  Scott had an Italian sandwich and a piece of roast beef (not on the bun).  I forgot to take a picture of Scott’s food.  We shared a few of the different salads.  I had to pick apart and put back together my roast beef sandwich as there was a lot of fat around the edges.  Once I cut that off it was very good.

I had a strawberry scone.  I really like the scones here, but they aren’t like real scones, they are more like a biscuit cut in half with some cream and a strawberry in the middle.

We picked up some information about different cruises from the Next Cruise area, we just took a few of the flyers with information on different sailings.  Scott wanted coffee so we went over to the Patisserie with our flyers.  He had a Capuccino, I had an iced Capuccino, and he also got two macaroons (Cookies & Cream and Lavender).  We are both really liking the macaroons.

Back in our cabin we washed the bathing suits, water shoes, and snorkel stuff and put that out to dry.

We sat on the balcony for a while.   I read my kindle and poked around on the internet.  Scott took a nap.

We went back to the casino after dinner.

We saw another funny animal in the elevator - a penguin.

I was on my favorite poker slot machine and Scott said he was running back to the cabin for something and would be back shortly.  A few minutes after he left I hit another Royal Flush for $1,000.  That was exciting.

I’m loving this!!  Thank you for taking the time.  I love the St. Kitts shirts and my curiosity is now piqued!    Three days so far, three shirts.  What color will tomorrow’s St. Kitts shirt be?

OMG this is so funny.  I jumped ahead looking through my pictures since now I’m curious.

We have a break from St Kitts shirts for a day with Scott wearing an Aruba shirt

But then I have a day with him wearing not one but two St Kitts shirts on the same day.  He will often bring an extra T shirt with him while we’re out in case he gets too hot he can easily change shirts.

Throughout the rest of the trip a few other island shirts appear, but the there will be more St Kitts shirts too.
