Discovery v Explorer 2

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Thinking of booking first Marella cruise in October, and would like some advice over choice of ship. We are regular P and O and Princess cruisers, and have seen a lot of familiar names from the  Pand O / Princess boards, so hope some of you will be able to offer some suggestions. We are looking at Discovery or Explorer 2 , in the Med/Adriatic. Many thanks.

Purely a subjective opinion of course, I prefer Discovery 2 esentially the same ship as Discovery, to Explorer 2. Discovery has a better overall layout, no void on deck 5, a proper full height Atrium with a nice bar at its base, a full around the deck running/walking track and Bar Eleven with it's nice views forward. Explorer 2 theater has balconies which Discovery does not have.

Not been on Explorer 2 yet, going September.  We did both Discovery and E1 last year and they are very comparable. We preferred the layout of Discovery but the bathrooms were better on E1 so it's swings and roundabouts.  The entertainment is very good on both and the food is similar although not quite as good as Princess.  Always found the staff to be excellent.  We've also sailed with Princess and P&O so I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. Choose the itinerary you prefer and go with an open mind, have a great cruise whichever you choose.

We were on Explorer 1 last year and Explorer 2 this year. We enjoyed both very much but did prefer Explorer 2 particularly the fact it is adults only. We had quite a few very unruly children onExplorer 1 last year. We really liked the different bars on Explorer 2. Would agree with Dronny girl food on a par with P&O the service and entertainment is far superior on Marella. We are booked on Discovery 2 in September

Thanks for your advice, have now booked the Discovery after reading your comments. We are used to the bigger ships, so think this will suit us well.
