Bermuda on a Sunday - Caves & Beach?

Hi,

This is our first time to Bermuda and we will only be there for the one day on a Sunday in August unfortunately. We are thinking of getting off the ship asap and taking a taxi to the Crystal Caves and then taking a taxi from there or the Swizzle Inn to either Horseshoe or one of the other beaches for a few hours. Does this sound like a doable plan for 4?

Thanks,

Lenore

You might be well served by hiring a blue flag taxi (sightseeing certified) to take you on our tour of the island on the way over to the Caves/Swizzle. Since your itinerary will be so taxi reliant (with the ferry from Dockyard to StG not operating on Sunday) it could be a good way to get a predictable cost from the hourly rate while also getting to see some more of the island along the way. You could either hire a new taxi from Caves/Swizzle back to Horseshoe or keep them on the meter until you get to the beach. Once there its an easy minibus trip back to the Dockyard.

I'm assuming you're  on Adventure of the Seas if you're there in August for one day on a Sunday. According to the port schedule the ship arrives at 8 am and departs at 5 pm so from a practical perspective you have at most 8 hours to spend. You can do what you're suggesting but it will be expensive. Taxi for 4 on a Sunday, which carries a 25% fare surcharge, will be about $80 plus tip from Dockyard to the caves. From the caves or the Swizzle Inn to Horseshoe Bay will be about $45 plus tip, and Horseshoe Bay to Dockyard about $45 plus tip.

There's three hour minimum for the taxi tours so you're looking at $150 from the start just to get to the caves. Then you have to add on everything else . But beyond the cost, there's a time issue. With a maximum of 8 hours to play with would it be wise to tie up 3 hours at the start without even having seen the first place they're interested in, the caves? A straight taxi trip from the Dockyard to the caves would only take an hour or less.

I'm all for people taxing a blue flag taxi tour, but in this case I don't think it best serves their stated preferred itinerary.
