Probiotic Yogurt

Recommended Posts

You’ll need to be a bit more specific as to what ship and what itinerary. There can be quite a bit of variation, and I would expect there to be some change based on what’s available and when contracts expire (and whether they are brand-specific).

The brand and type of yogurt available on board will depend on where the ship is and getting it's supplies. We were on the first Amsterdam cruise in Alaska, but the ship had just come through the Panama Canal and resupplied in Central America somewhere...all the yogurt was in Spanish, and on the plain side.

Most what we call breakfast yogurts in the us have "active cultures." Not all active cultures qualify as "probiotic." You would need to know exactly what you are looking for when reading labels. I saw plenty of live culture yogurt on Oosterdam but I don't recall seeing Activia specifically.

There does seem to be a preference to reserve the term probiotic for those which have probiotic bacteria added after fermentation.

On our last cruise on the Eurodam to Alaska, all the yogurt offered had no active cultures of any kind. I was surprised after reading the label. Wasted calories! It definitely was not Activia. Hopefully this varies by ship and by area.
