Equinox Aqua Class Issues

Recommended Posts

Just off of the Equinox and have a warning for anyone considering Aqua Class on this ship.  We were in a forward Cabin, 1508 on the 11th deck, which is dedicated to the Aqua Class passengers. The treadmills in the gym are located directly above many of the Aqua Class Cabins.  The pounding sound of people running hard on the treadmills made it impossible to sleep-in or relax in the room. We heard this aggravating sound, morning, noon and night, until they finally agreed to move us to another cabin, which they basically downgraded us off the Aqua Class Deck to Deck 9. The expected experience of our first AQ Class cruise just wasn't the same after that.  I find it amazing this ship was designed that way and even more amazing Celebrity thinks it wouldn't bother guests that paid extra for relaxation.

It’s unfortunate that you had a cabin under the treadmills. The noise in these cabins has been reported on the S Class cabin sticky on Cruise Critic.  Was this cabin assigned as a result of booking a guaranteed cabin?

In the future you may want to check cruisedeckplans.com to see what is above or below a cabin you are considering.

A couple asked us to see their room not too far from the OP Aqua Class room.  Right in the middle of the veranda was window washing equipment.  I guess if you looked to the right or left of it, you would not see it. 🤨

Aqua Class is one of the most ingenious concepts ever developed by Celebrity.  Celebrity figured out a way to sell some of the worst cabins on the ship at the highest prices. Yes there are some cabins in decent locations but most are in undesirable locations.

I’m so sorry you had this experience.  You are right in encouraging people to pick their cabins carefully.  This is true in every class of cabin.  This is why I would never do an upgrade bid to AQ or a suite because there are cabins in both that I wouldn’t want.  There are some AQ cabins that are underneath other cabins (ideal) and some quiet ones under the Solarium (but with the large overhang which you either love or don’t.)

Wow.  We have been on the Equinox several times, always in an Aqua room and they have always been excellent.   We do get an accessible stateroom so they are always in the same general location.   But before we needed an accessible stateroom, our Aqua rooms were always great.    When sailing on a ship we are not familiar with, I always check the deck plan, below, above and what's on the same deck as our room before making a decision about which room to select.

If you have a guaranty stateroom, you will get what they choose for you.

Were you allowed to eat in Blu and access Persian Gardens?

There is nothing wrong with deck 9, it's between two decks with cabins. The verandas, concierge, and aqua cabins are the same size, but aqua has upgraded shower heads and a few other small perks that we don't care about.

  1. Unfortunate, but nice that they moved you to a quieter cabin.

Curious, Were you able to continue dining in Blu and did you keep your other aqua class benefits?

We have often booked toward the front of the ship but always port side under a quieter area. The cabins under the treadmills shouldn’t be sold at a premium or should have a warning, much like obstructed view cabins!

Totally agree! However, I still love the amenities of Aqua Class. On the S class ships I always try to get one of the cabins on the hump to avoid the noise from above. At one time there was no Aqua Class 1 and 2, but Celebrity noticed that some cabins were more desirable and created A1 with an increase in price.

We booked this cruise last minute and took the guaranteed cabin.  After 26 cruises we should have known better than to book a guarantee but we were told there were no balcony obstructions and never thought we'd have an issue with treadmills! We were happy Celebrity decided to move us but we had just unpacked and then had to repack and move ourselves to a cabin that was not recently renovated like the one we paid for and then unpack again... not something that's fun to do on your first and second day of the cruise....then of course we had to deal with Guest Services to make all this happen which took 3 or 4 phone calls and visits to the GS desk which wasn't fun either.  At first they told us there were no more cabins available!

Yes, we were able to keep our Aqua Class perks and Celebrity even added to it but it was still a very unpleasant experience.

Cabin placement is  paramount!  Sorry OP got stuck!

We once booked a so called primo midships AQ room  on M Class that turned out to be  mostly under the stage area at the pool.   We started unpacking when the boom boom bass and dancing started.,  Really loud bass ...room was shaking.

We called guest rel and housekeeping right away,  The person they sent up..was stunned by the noise and vibration,  we were offered and accepted another cabin.. much .further forward... but it was so quiet and comfy.  We mostly repacked and moved ourselves before dinner with help from our new  attendant.  The other one had  to re make up the room for someone new. Glad we changed...would not have survived...too many  afternoon & nightime activities above.  Others also complained...but luckily we were able to get s nice room.
