Amera is on her maiden voyage right now!

Recommended Posts

Our good friend, Prinsendam, now known as Amera left Bremerhaven a few hours ago on her maiden voyage.  I hope her guests are happy with the end result of her transformation.  Hopefully we will hear from some of them here on Cruise Critic once in a while.

Ditto.  She’s certainly had some major maintenance done.

I am just grateful that we had the opportunity to do the sailings on her that we did.

May she sail long and glorious.  🙂

Maybe I am rather too sentimental, but I am always happy to see a ship on which I have sailed now still in service (i.e. Royal Viking Sky, the original Royal Princess) for a new cruise company.

The time that I visited Rotterdam V in Rotterdam during my VOV cruise was a major highlight of that cruise.  I was even able to sit at a table in the Lafontaine Dining Room during my ship's tour that was at the location where my table was in 1970, my very first cruise.  Speaking so much about my experiences on that ship in the Ambassador Lounge, the Ocean Bar, the Theater, etc. to the other guests on my tour, I now wonder if they thought I was nuts.

Two great cruises on Prisendam. You can change the cruise line and name but those wonderful memories last forever.❤️

We had dinner with the Prinsendam safety officer and he said he would be on Amera for the maiden voyage.  I don't remember if HAL had a posting for him after that.

Officers and sailors do not need to speak German on a German ship. The hotel department speaks German.  - more or less.

English is the official lingua franca for all staff. Only those who deal directly with passengers need some German.

A film crew from the German TV program Verrückt Nach Meer is aboard for the first couple of cruises of the former Prinsendam and again for the 99 day South America circumnavigation beginning January 6. I don't know when the new shows will be available online. Reruns of the show are available from daserste.de , this link should work through September 13: https://www.daserste.de/information/reportage-dokumentation/verrueckt-nach-meer/videos/verrueckt-nach-meer-folge-239-video-100.html

Today she is in Antwerp, one of my favorite ports.  I was there on the Prinsendam May 18-19 this year.

Tomorrow Amera is in Amsterdam, and the following day Bremerhaven.
