Recommended Posts

I am sure it has been asked many times before but......what dining room and what time is it open?

I struggle with the search function on this site

The MDR is only open at lunch for Concierge guests, B2B guests, and (I think ) elite plus. Luminae may or may not be open for suite guests. For everyone else it's your choice of the Ocean View Cafe, Mast Grill, or Spa Cafe. Sushi on 5 is open, but is a specialty (for a fee) restaurant.

The Concierge embarkation luncheon is held in the MDR. Seating is between 11:30AM and 1:00PM. It is for Concierge class and sometimes (read that almost always) B2B guests. Luminae is open for lunch to suite guests.

For everyone else, you can dine in the buffet, spa café in the solarium, Mast Grill as included no cost options. Sometimes The Porch is open on Silhouette and Reflection and also Sushi on 5.

You can get a liquid lunch at most bars and Cafe al Bacio has a variety of pastries.

Not quite.  The MDR embarkation lunch is open for Concierge class, the B2B passengers and Zenith Captain's Club members.  Elite+ Captain's Club members are not included.

It is commonly called the "Concierge" lunch as that is the only passenger group always invited to attend based solely on their stateroom category, although it is actually a hodge-podge of different groups of people who are invited to have lunch there for one reason or another.

Many of the others were already  having lunch in the MDR on embarkation day long before Concierge Class was added.

Some of the other categories who have lunch there are visiting entertainers, guests of staff members, visiting travel agents and their guests, corporate visitors, local  visitors having business with the cruise line or ship personnel, and of course the aforementioned B2B passengers.

Concierge Class passengers had been complaining that they were paying extra without receiving any worthwhile additional benefits for the higher price.

So X decided to toss in a few more extras for Concierge Class that would cost the cruise line little or nothing to provide.

They use only a small part of the large dining room for the embarkation day lunch, so they can easily set more or fewer tables, as needed.  The limiting factor is the size of the serving staff assigned there at lunch that day.

Oceanview can initially be really busy  as some guests will immediately head there on boarding and camp out until the rooms are open announcement is made (usually about 1ish).

Best option is to find a nice seat at a bar with your hand luggage. Then as the announcement is made, drop off your luggage at your room and then head for Oceanview. By then you will probably get a window seat and it will be easy to walk around and choose your food at leisure. By the time you have finished hopefully your luggage may have arrived.

If you are in a suite Luminae lunch really does make a very pleasant start to your holiday. If you aren’t Sushi does offer a reasonable alternative, not too expensive and again it is very unstressed way to start a cruise.
