Le Havre to Juno Beach

Recommended Posts

Looking for info from anyone who may have done a tour from Le Havre to Juno Beach?

Thanks.

We’ll be doing Cunard.’s tour of Juno and Sword next month, and back in 2017 did the American sector, also on a ships tour.

if you do not want to take a ship sponsored tour, you may want to search this forum for information on Overlord tours, and also for threads about car rental at the port.

Agree...looking around the board would find many mentions of Overlord Tours. Great operation.

Can only reply much the same as others.

Demand for tours to the Canadian sights (and Brit sights on a US ship) is low, so there's probably no suitable ship's tour.

Yes, Overlord and other D-Day tour operators can tailor a tour to suit you, but I think for that you'll find that you have to book the van, & try to find sharers, for instance via your RollCall.

By public transport isn't possible in your time-scale

Two other alternatives

- book a car with a driver who speaks English. Pot-luck how much the driver will know, but there are guides and plenty of literature & signage at Juno museum.

- rent a car. Directions & driving are pretty easy - no city driving other than in & out of Le Havre.

With both of those options you'll have time to also visit the Abbaye d’Ardenne,  (poignant for Canadians) and/or US & Brit sights. The remains of the Mulberry Harbour, and an excellent seafront museum at Arromances  are only 20 minutes further along the coast.

With both of those options you'll also have more chance of finding sharers since you only need one couple to share the costs.

And with a car rental the costs will be low anyway  (€100 or a little more for vehicle & fuel)

I have visited Juno beach from LeHavre in the past based on JBs instructions. As Canadians we wanted to see the Canadian sites and tours were cost prohibitive. We rented from rentacar dockside. We drove to Bayeaux and saw the tapestry and bought some pastries for the drive to Juno beach. The museum there is manned by Canadians and was very informative with the Canadian perspective on d-day. We then drove to Beny sur mer Canadian cemetery. On the way back we stopped by the Pegasus Bridge where the British paratroopers landed.

I also rented from rentacar dockside in  2 weeks ago when we were in LeHavre. They now offer small cars wrapped in advertising for only 20€ with a 15€ port charge. The only drawback was it only included 100km free and the excess at .19€ per km. With maximum insurance, mileage, tolls and gas the cost was 100€ for our trip to Rouen and Honfleur..
