I'm sorry, but I totally disagree with you.  On days we have breakfast, we have fresh squeezed OJ.  I also have a mocha coffee from the Promenade Cafe.

At dinner I enjoy having  one or two glasses of wine and I am not a fan of the wine served in the DL.    I also have a drink or sometimes 2 in the casino after dinner and most times it is Johnny Walker Double Black scotch and soda which is not available in the DL.

A few times during the week, I may have a Pina Colada or Mango drink.  All day and at night I drink bottled water.  Now, to you, I might be a heavy drinker, but compared to many with the alcohol package, I am not.

I certainly don't drink like the above at home, but a vacation is different just as I don't eat as much at home as I do on a cruise.

You are most welcome to disagree with me.  DP may work wonders for some, but keep in mind...it may be a waste of money for others.  To each their own.  My situation...which is obviously not yours from post #6

We pretty much stick to wine and occasional beer on a cruise.  Happy hour in the lounge may see us with a Gin and T in our hands, but not really the norm.

Drink vouchers, may use them sometimes at dinner, but rare.

Two bottles of wine allowed in carry on.  Sometimes we only take one on board, sometimes none.

Three bottles of wine delivered to cabin as complimentary.

Do we need drink package?...not in our case/situation...IMHO.  😉

I am referring to those that each day spend the entire happy hour in the lounge. They are either inconsiderate for monopolizing a limit resource or they have an alcohol problem. What other category would they fall under?

The Chatty Kathy group?  Socializers?  Relaxers?  Regular people?

I don't think you can just decide someone's an alcoholic because they sit in a lounge for a time that you have decided is too long.  I've certainly seen the DL packed to the gills and people waiting on a spot, but I've also seen the DL have plenty of seats for the entire time it was open.  We've been in the DL for 5 minutes and we've been in there for 3.5 hours.  I don't think you get to decide what I do and my intentions or whatever.  We tip our servers and we're friendly people.  We would never sit in the chair for too long if people were trying to come in, but there also isn't a sign at the door to the DL that says "You may only stay for XX minutes or we'll call PCWalton1 and have them call you an alcoholic.  They will post this info on the town board in your hometown and put your picture up next to it."

Live and let live!  If someone's being rude and hogging a chair, that's bad.  If they are just there, let it mellow!

Sooooo how do you know they spend the entire happy hour in the lounge each day....are you there the whole time also to observe that?  Or did you secretly equip them with GPS tracking devices to be sure of their location?  😉

We  usually go to 8.30 sitting for dinner  in the MDR and because  I like to stay out on deck for as long as possible we normally rock up to the DL at about 7.45pm and have a couple of drinks, maybe 2 or 3 at the most. If we go to an early show we will get a drink before we go into the theatre with our loaded drinks then if we have time will go to the DL for one after the show.

However if people wish to spend all their time in the DL during Happy Hour it doesn't bother me at all.

On my next cruise I become Diamond !!!!!!!!!!!

Every cruise I have done I have purchased the drinks package and had my moneys worth be it $38 Dollars or the Current $57

But now I am Diamond I get 3 free drinks which I feel I lose as I am purchasing the package

Shouldn't there be a discount on the package then?

If I read your post correctly, you will "make" diamond on your next cruise, you will not have diamond status.

You won't get diamond status until your following cruise, so you question is irrelevant.

Nope.  We enjoy the lounge before dinner for a couple of drinks,  but the real reason we like the lounge so much is to socialize with "birds of a feather" while sipping on our cocktails.  We all have the same passion...we love to cruise.  Have met many interesting people, some of whom we still stay in contact with, and enjoy cruising with again.

Then it's off to dinner, with a glass of wine, and usually don't return to the lounge afterwards.  I do love it for coffee early in the am, one of my favorite perks.    🙂

I was just posting that as a snarky remark to another post on this thread. Not directed at you.

Exactly! I always think that when some posts those kind of remarks no matter the subject.

Then they just fall in the inconsiderate category

You walk in and see them seated. You return towards the end and they are still there. You do the math.

Since you're assuming. Possibly they left right after you and returned right before you. Did you also count their  drinks. Or those sitting at the same table all night in the schooner bar having a good time. So what!

You forgot to mention that the next night the same people are in the same chairs sitting with the same group.  Last TA we sat at the same couch with the same people for most of the cruise, just by coincidence the people behind us were in the DL every night all night the previous TA in 2017.  This was the Attic overflow DL happy hour.

Yeah, I kind of figured that....Royal DS slides in there with cute come backs...my post back at 'cha was in that same "not everyone is the same" theme.  😉

OK...I come in for before dinner cocktail.  You leave before I do for dinner.  I come back later for after dinner glass of wine/port...etc.  (Apparently you are doing the same thing).  Then you walk back in.  Was I there the whole happy hour?   Hmmmm.....  🤔

I better check my ankle for monitoring device.

Totally this ^ ...well stated my DS friend.  Staying for entire happy hour, enjoying cocktails with friends...in the CL/SL/DL...or in the other various lounges (or casino) with the drink package.  What's the difference?  😉

Wish there were more people that would show some consideration and not camp out in the lounge for the entire happy hour. But when you offer free booze to alcoholics that what you get.

We only stay  in the DL for @15 minutes or less because I don't drink so don't care for the DL, but DH likes a gin and tonic and then takes a glass of wine to the DR for dinner. We didn't know you could order drinks in the DR with your voucher. Maybe I could just talk him into ordering his drinks at dinner, skip the DL and spend more time relaxing at the pool:)

HAPPY CRUISING EVERYONE!

LOL, yeah right. You have seen on any given night how crowded the DL is. What is more likely, they stayed for awhile, left for dinner then came back and managed to get the exact same table again or they camped out the whole time.

My observances was from our Symphony cruise back in January. For three nights we stopped in multiple times and never found a free table. During the later times we stopped in it was easy to spot the ones that had been there earlier in the evening, they were usually the more boisterous ones. 😂

See now this is different as there was an overflow to accommodate far more people. Our Vision cruise last fall was like this as we had the entire Some Enchanted Evening lounge available which gave far more people an opportunity to sit. (BTW great picture)

Yes your response is irrelevant and unfortunatly is typical these days

I am aware of the way the C&A Society works

Perhaps a glance at my signature would of told you that

Just a reminder, keep your eye on the clock,  to make sure you were seated for dinner and have time to order before the happy hour ends.

 Cheers

With the package, even as Diamond, you may choose the alcohol brand. The 3 drinks or drinks in the lounge, are supposed to be from the Diamond list.
