I might be wrong but if you’re on a phone I don’t see that function available but it is on my computer.

I just got off the Breeze this Saturday and noticed some of these as well.  There was rust all over the hull. I know it happens, and they paint it, but I don't really recall seeing that much rust on my past cruises.  When we arrived at our first port, I noticed the 'rust drips' from the name of the ship at the aft - when we came back on board, the rust was gone.  So during our cruise they were painting the outside.  I saw them again painting from a little platform boat while we were in Grand Turk.

I also noticed lots of plates of half-eaten food laying around in the stairwells.  No idea how long they were sitting there, but my first thought was "wow, that's trashy to leave your plate there" and not "why hasn't anyone cleaned that up".  I'm guessing the people who would clean that up don't typically need to go up/down the public stairwells very often.

As for the buffet/lido, it was busy but I didn't notice a difference in the time it took to clear off tables.  No problem with lido waiters, although my wife asked for a bottle of water twice from the same guy, he never came back.  When I got there I ordered a 'real' drink and he of course showed up with that.

Like I said I noticed it but it didn't bother me or put me off cruising with CCL again.  I was traveling with a first timer and hoped it didn't impact her first impression.  She had a great time which is all I cared about.

Same here. On my puter, but not on my phone. I'm sure it's an abbreviated application for obvious reasons.

The Breeze has a bunch of negatives but I felt it was very clean and only the casino stunk.  I will say the buffet area was such a madhouse that it did seem like dishes sat out a lot longer then previous cruises.  I went in a few of the bathrooms and do not remember them being unclean.

We had one of our neighbors do the old put their dirty dishes outside our door but I don't blame Carnival for that one but it was an indication of the rudeness we experienced on the Breeze from other passengers.

Actually, I wasn’t so much referring to your OP. It’s the people who, whenever there is the slightest negative post made, jump in and say carnival sucks, sail NCL or carnival sucks, sail RCL.

I’m was an avid Carnival cruiser and did make a comment about the smell as I’ve had it real bad on my last two sailings....Breeze and Glory. I have also smelled it on my other cruises but not as bad. I’ve only been on two RC cruises one back in 2000 and one in 2016 , after the 2016 cruise I seen a huge difference in cruise lines from entertainment and activities and the ships themselves. I did sail again on Carnival in 2018 and knew at the time it’s no longer the line for me. I’ve had many great times on Carnival but they need to step it up as they are falling behind. I feel the money the spent on Shaq could be better spent on the ships in many areas.

This is MY opinion and I’m not bashing Carnival if just stating my experience as of late.

The “official” word from Carnival on this is to put the dishes in the hall. That is because it is the room service people who pick them up not the room stewards.

Disagree.  Carnival ships are rust buckets.  This is not normal.  Heck, here is some photos to prove it.

The stunning view from our balcony on Magic a couple months ago:

Public decks near waterworks.  The beautiful look of total lack of maintenance.  Chipping paint, rust, etc.:

For fun, here is what our room looked like after our first service on the cruise.  And no, we didn't jump in the bed prior to taking the picture.  It was so ridiculous we felt the need to snap a picture.  This is Carnival quality!:

And you would think Carnival has some self respect.  They would want to make sure their ships look presentable.  Pull up next to other lines in port and show off!  Lol.  Anyone who has sailed on other lines knows this view, when the rust bucket Carnival ships pull up next to you.  You can't help but feel embarrassed for Carnival:

20190101-112208.jpg

Look, we had a decent cruise on Magic.  Would I jump at the opportunity to sail them again?  No.  But if the price is right (WAY cheaper than everyone else), then I'm willing to overlook their dumpy ships and lack of maintenance because they do put out a halfway decent product, again, if the price reflects that their decent product is still well below their competitors...

The truth is, we live in South Florida and my wife worked in logistics with Carnival for years and years.  The stories would be quite interesting to the Carnival fans here.  When she mentioned we were sailing Carnival to a VP, yes, a VP at Carnival... their answer was "Why the heck would you do that?".... This runs all the way up the chain.  They are well aware of the product they are offering and even the management at Carnival doesn't believe in it.  The VP is a big fan of Celebrity, for what it's worth, then the Royal mega ships.

so did you read the rcl review I posted about the rust? did you go to the rcl site and search for rust and see that there are several ships that show rust? I guess you wont be sailing them anymore.

that is correct. but they don't roam the halls non stop. they could be out there awhile as expected.

In our case one of the people near us put their dirty dishes for what ever reason directly next to our door even though we never had room service.  Maybe they didn't like the clutter by their door but it was rude to see dirty dishes without the satisfaction of the meal.

I am on a laptop, not IOS, no signatures

coevan:  Go to the top of the page and find coevan with an arrow for a drop down box

Click on the arrow.

Click on Account Settings

On the left side of the page click on Signature

Now make sure you have a green check box next to View Signatures. If it is grey then slide it over turn green

If you have View Signatures then I would say there is a glitch in the system and you should contact the moderators to see if you can get it fixed.

That is what Carnival tells you to do. They tell you when done with room service please place outside door. It amazes me how people can't read the rules.

What I have learned from this thread. The cheerleaders of Carnival will never accept the facts about the lowering standards and less staff on Carnival. There are even Carnival cheerleader trolls who have never even cruised on Carnival. Lets face it, Carnival is a inferior cruise line.

Lol, you are funny, you are joking right?  Can you point me to the facts on less staff?  I would love to see the numbers.  You do know what the opposite of a cheerleader is, right?  Your last cruise on Carnival was......when?

Coevan I see your signature but there aren't any cruises 2/25/18 B2B.

Go to the very top of this page you see a bell and envelope then your name, click on that, it brings down an arrow, click account settings then it bring you to another page and on the far left in light blue color you find signature, click on that and you can make adjustments.

  • 2 weeks later...

I said that I would report back once I was on my cruise, so here I go.  I am on the Breeze right now and have a balcony on deck 10.  The hallway where my cabin is located has no weird smell, thankfully.  I haven't been to the lower deck hallways in the cabin areas and don't plan on checking out those areas.

When I was eating at the buffet last night, I remembered this thread so I looked around.  There were some windows that could use cleaning.  Nothing else looked dirty.  I spent time on the main pool deck and on deck 11 and those areas were kept clean.  Actually, yesterday was wonderful and today is going well.

As far as getting on the ship, I had an appointment time of 11:30 to 12:00, but arrived at 10:45.  I went to the early/late line and there were only a couple of people ahead of me.  I got checked in and sat down in what looked like a couple of the remaining chairs in section A.  They called group A1 at 11:05 am and I heard them calling group A2, A3, and A4 as I was boarding the ship.  This was the fastest check-in that I have ever experienced.  I am not sure why the early/late line wasn't busy.  Maybe I arrived at a really good time.

Our luggage was at our cabin door when we returned from muster.  We watched some very good country singers for a couple of house, ate dinner, and then watched two very good comedians.  We relaxed on deck 11 today.  It was not as crowded as my June cruise on the Magic.  Maybe summers are a little crazier.  The comedy shows were full though.

It is probably too early to know whether or not we will have any negative experiences.  I will report back later.  So far, we are having a wonderful time. The weather is beautiful and we will be in Bermuda tomorrow.  One thing we didn't know was that the ship's time changed today.  That's a first for us.

I was on the 8/24 sailing of the Breeze. I too was surprised at what I saw in regards to the dining room chairs. Our table for 12 had mostly stained chairs. The chairs are a reddish burgundy color and the dark stains on then had you making sure it wasn’t fresh grease to stain your clothes. We sat at another table for Brunch and those were stained but not nearly as bad as our dinner table.

The only other think I noticed was the smell. We were deck 7 aft. I’ve smelled a waft of sewage before in my 22 cruises but it was kinda bad for most of the cruise.

I only used the public restroom once and it was clean.

My cruise wasn’t ruined but there were some noticeable negatives.

I have never been on the Breeze but I have been on almost 10 Carnival ships - rust and discoloration is an issue on most of them with some more than others. You will see some painting being done on the ships but it seems that Carnival may have a tough time keeping up. I have seen the royal ships in port and have cruised on two of them and I don't think they have as much of an issue - or maybe we are just blown away by some the size and grandness of some of them. I marvel at the hull's of the Norwegian ship with the artistic signatures as they are always looking clean and freshly painted. The ships outside is the first thing you see when you get on and at the ports. If they look rusted and aged it doesn't make for a good first impression.

Regardless of that there is more action on the Carnival boards with people "being critical of cleanliness" than on the others. Not sure what the reason is but it does seem to be an issue that Carnival could do a better job of. There are people who defend the brand no matter what, I am not sure if they just love the company so much it personally hurts them to have bad things written, or they work for the company. Whatever the reason I believe the energies should be focused toward Carnival to do a better job.

Below is a picture of the Carnival Sunrise from my August cruise and Royal Freedom of the Seas from My July cruise. Both are from on of the back sides of the ship.

LOL. All ships rust. They cruise in salt water. It’s a matter of timing because when they can, each one gets repainted only to rust again at some point. Go over to the RCL board and search on rust. You’ll see several threads posting the same silliness that their ships are rusting.
