Who has been to the naughty room?

On many threads I read people mentioning having to go to the naughty room and wait in long lines for their luggage.  Who on here has actually had to go to the naughty room?  What was in your luggage and was it taken?  How long were you down there?

i had to go there the night before disembark to pick up a six pack of specialty local beer id bought in port.  i was in and out, showed my ticket adn got my bag and was on my way.  never had to go at the start of a cruise because i dont pack anything contraband that may result in me having to go there.

Twice.

Very early in our cruising when I didn't know better as there was a part bottle of port we hadn't completed ashore.   Only a few minutes as there weren't many there and, NO, they wouldn't let me drink it!!

Once when they wanted to measure a pair of scissors for length.  A little longer as there were people arguing about alcohol!!!

Wife tried to bring a hair curler on board.  Wasted about 45 minutes.  Woman in front of us was furious.  They searched her bag 3 times, found nothing.  They would not say what it was they thought she had.  Supposedly they do not open your luggage until you show up.  Was easy to pick up the hair curler on disembarkation.

Not on NCL but once on RCCL. We packed a few bottles of WATER in our luggage (which was allowed at the time). Hubby went down on embarkation night when we hadn't gotten that one piece of luggage. They didn't open the suitcase until he showed up. They checked the bottles to make sure they hadn't been opened and replaced with booze. Once it was determined it was just water he was able to take the suitcase and the bottles of water to our cabin. No biggie but makes a good story. And my parents were with us on this cruise. LOL!

Last time I forgot to grab my wine out of my bag before sending it on board.

 

NCL had taken the wine out of my bag (different from those accounts above)....  It was probably only 15 minutes I spent in the cruise lobby waiting for them bring out the wine bottles and for me to pay.

Oh this one was funny.  Packed a couple of bottles of wine (perfectly happy to pay the corkage fee) because we were cruising with a pair of our wine loving friends.  The 4 of us were in a 2 bedroom Haven.  Each of us was missing a suitcase and the bartender asked if we had any booze in them.  After we said yep, he let us know they're in the locker.  Fair enough, we walk down there to liberate the vino.  

We get down there and all hell hilariously breaks loose.  We are trying to explain (admit) that we had some wine in our suitcases to an employee who thought we were trying to get around the corkage.  He was not happy, like unnecessarily irritated, and we had a couple of drinks in us so we, of course, thought it was funny.  When we started laughing, our butler busts in, out of breath and half scolding us and half apologizing.  At this point, any sense decorum we once had was completely gone and we were doubled over laughing. 

To answer your question, we were down there for maybe 5 minutes.  Technically we didn't take our bags (our butler did), and it cost us nothing to get the total of 4 bottles of wine to our room.

Yes. Mentioned to our Butler, we were missing one suitcase. He told us where to go. When we got to room, they had us open luggage and they inspected bag. Contained 6 cans of Diet Coke (allowed at the time). they thought it was beer on the x-ray. Told us to close up suitcase and leave with it.  Not friendly or helpful. They must hate their job!!

On Celebrity, a very small mini-steam iron for ironing our clothes for formal nights; didn't know it wasn't allowed....

Our last cruise on Carnival we had 4 beers left over from pre cruise party put them in our bag got a note left in the cain to go to the room they. Treated everyone was like you  were  a criminal and it took forever. We were platinum on Carnival. They lost our business over 4 beers never will cruise them again treated us like some kind of criminal. Ok I understand there are rules but 4 beers  it was not like that is all we would drink on the cruise was 4 beers they got plenty of money from drinks from us. Now I am a Norwegian cruiser. Beverage package anyone. Now due to illness I cannot drink alcohol. But sure do like the virgin mudslides

Twice.  Once they found my travel iron on the x ray.  I opened my suitcase, gave it to them, they tagged it, and I was able to pick it up at the end of the cruise.  Took all of less than 10 minutes total for both visits.  The second time, on the Celebrity Summit, I had brought along a power strip.  They said it was too old and if I needed one in my cabin I could get one that was allowed from guest services.  The best part was that the "naughty" area was right where they were bringing people on to the ship...and giving them free glasses of champagne.  I made friends with the employee handing out the champagne and had several glasses while I waited my turn for my suitcase opening.  He then let me take two more glasses back to my room with me!

This was on MSC, in the Yacht Club, no less.

 

I had never sailed MSC before so was sort of hesitant upon embarkation to begin with.  Butler immediately grabbed my luggage and escorted me to check in.  At the time. I had some money in one of the carryons (a significant amount, as back then, I carried cash to play in the casino).  Figuring I would always have my carry one with me, I didn’t transfer anything in the bag to my pockets.

 

Well, after check-in, the Butler who carried my luggage from the pier to the ship, transferred me to another Butler, who was the one who ended up taking care of me while actually on the ship.  The 1st Butler said he would take my bags to my cabin while I got a drink and snacks in the Yacht Club while meeting with the concierge.  I gave him a $20 bill since he had been lugging around my luggage from the pier, through check in, and onto the ship.

 

Didn’t think anything about it as I went touring the Yacht Club, walked around the ship a bit, and finally headed to my cabin.  NO LUGGAGE!

 

I FREAKED!

 

Called my Butler and explained my luggage was missing (it was probably 9:00 p.m.).  We traced back the last time I had seen it, and who was taking care of it.  We checked with the concierge desk to see if anyone turned in my luggage.  Figured it might have been delivered to the wrong cabin (and hoping the passengers in that cabin didn’t go nosying around in my luggage).  NO ONE REPORTED ANY MISPLACED LUGGAGE.

 

I began to think my luggage and my money was gone....who knows who had it?

 

Finally, around midnight, being LIVID and blaming MSC for my loss (how do you prove you had several thousand dollars in your luggage along with your clothes?). I went to customer service, explaining this all in minute detail.  They had no reports, but the nice person at Customer Service said she would check with security (which supposedly had already been asked more than once about the possible whereabouts of my luggage).  She happened to call the head of security.  They said the only luggage they had was confiscated.

 

CONFISCATED?  For what?  A tube of CREST?

 

Anyway, the customer service person called a Butler, who escorted me down to security to see if the “confiscated” luggage was mine.  We get there (my Butler and I) and meet up with the head of security.  

 

The “keeper of the confiscated luggage” brings it out, I identify it.  Which was crazy strange given I had my name tag on it, and the CORRECT luggage tag on it.  Head of security asked why it was being quarantined.  The night security guy who brought out my luggage had no idea.  The Head of Security then calls whomever was manning the luggage security area on his walk-talkie and tells him to meet us.  He obviously was asleep when the call came in as he came looking pretty disheveled.

 

What happened at that point, I’m not sure.  There was a lot of shouting and hand gestures, but it was all in Italian.  So, I had no idea what was being said.

 

Long and short of it, my luggage was returned to me, after getting profuse apologies from the Butler, the Head of Security and a couple of his minions.  The night time security guy (that was manning the luggage cage) and my Butler grabbed my luggage and said they’d deliver it to my cabin.  At first, I wasn’t going to let them.  But, as long as I’m accompanying them, I thought it was OK.

 

Got to the cabin, checked my luggage, all was well.

 

Don’t know why my luggage went to the naughty room, or who sent it there.  But, I had a free dinner at any specialty restaurant and a bottle of red wine waiting for me the next day in my cabin, with another note apologizing.

 

In short, I don’t like the “naughty room”.

Yuppers. On Royal Caribbean a few years back. Waited and waited for one piece of luggage. Finally at around 9pm I went to customer service to see what the hold up was. Gal at the desk gave me a really skeptical look, asked if I had brought alcohol in the suitcase. Nope. (Knew for a fact I didn’t...) gal gives me another skeptical look, and I see my very distinctive suitcase in the corner. Pointed it out to her. She has me come open it. And inside was a card, no idea what it said since she took it, read it, and zipped the suitcase up and said to go ahead and take it. Obviously it had been cleared, but there I was at 9:30pm dragging my big ass suitcase the length of the ship... wish they had offered to bring it for me. But it made a good story anyhow. Do with I had been able to read the card tho....

Been there twice.

First time it was because the pier security confiscated a radio scanner I had in my carryon bag.   They said I could retrieve it on board, once we sailed.   Before they would return it to me, they made sure it was strictly a receiver, and not a transceiver (not allowed)....

 

The second time was when they noticed my Leatherman multi-tool in my checked bag.  I explained that I need the screwdriver and pliers to constantly tighten my mother's traveling wheelchair.   They were still reluctant, as the tool also contained some blades.   I told them, that if my mother had an accident as a result of a bolt coming out of her chair, I would hold them responsible.   They thought it over, and decided to allow me to take it...

What......no hair curlers allowed?   I was planning on bringing a flat iron for my hair (not clothes).  Will they take it?  Should I pack it in my carry on?

Wife's dive bag got held up, they saw a knife on the x-ray, they hadn't opened the bag or they might have found her airline booze bottles.  They actually never found the knife, shrugged, and handed it over.  No lectures or any thing of the sort.

Getting free champagne.  Talk about making lemons into lemon-aid.

I have not been to the naughty room but on one cruise I saw the line. The first night after dinner I saw about 100 people standing in a line going almost the length of the ship. These people were miserable. All I kept thinking was ( was sneaking that bottle of booze  worth ruining your first night on the ship) glad it wasn’t me.

Once on the Sky - our luggage didn’t arrive as planned for my friend who was sailing with me. I had instructed her the night before to put her travel mug in her carryon and she forgot. Needless to say, I was a little irritated with her when she was told she had to go to the  Naughty Room. After standing in line for about an hour, our butler saw us standing there and asked what the luggage looked like. He went in the back to grab it and was confronted by security. He calmly let him know that we were sailing in the Owners Suite and had no reason to smuggle alcohol as we got the 3L that came with the suite.  He opened the suitcase and the only thing they could find was her travel mug. She looked sheepish and I had a martini! Now, anytime I sail with anything that could remotely be confused with a can or bottle, I put it in my carryon!

Once...because of a power strip.  RCL Security left a card in our cabin stating I had to report to the 'Naughty Room'.  It was located behind the Customer Service Desk.  I was shown an x-ray photo of my small rolling duffle bag and told to open the bag and take out the power strip.  They tagged it and said I could pick it up after the cruise.  We were doing a B2B so when I picked up the power strip that was rolled up in plastic and taped up I just surrendered it to security on the next ship.  It may have been because it was a surge protector power strip because our last cruise I had an 'approved power strip ' and had no problem.

I have not been to the naughty room on NCL, but was called on Royal once for a small scissors.  The thing is-unless you are desperate to get your luggage, you don't have to rush down to get it.  Wait til a convenient time for you and no long lines.
