Queen Mary hotel good for viewing docking ships?

Hello, we are going on a cruise out of Long Beach in December on the Panorama. We were thinking about staying at the 
Queen Mary hotel the night before the cruise and were wondering if we can see the Carnival ships coming in to dock from the Queen Mary. We were hoping to get up bright and early and see the Panorama come in and dock and thought it would be especially cool if we could see it all from the deck of the Queen Mary. Thanks for any info.

I think I may have answered my own question by looking closer at google maps. It looks like the carnival dock it right next to the QM, but if anyone has any insights it would still be great. Thanks

Maybe 100 yards away. The Panorama is a larger ship then the ships that are currently there, however it will still be very close.

The dock is suppose to be extended.

You will have a good view from one of the outside QM decks.  They are very close together, way back when, Carnival check-in was literally on the QM.

You will have a great view of the ships coming into port. If you like history you will also. love the Queen Mary.

QM hotel is a little gross (+ haunted maybe). I recommend the Maya hotel by Doubltree. It’s right next to Queen Mary event park (grassy field adjacent) and has a great bar/restaurant on the water.

Here is the QM, there is an open aft deck that gets you so close to the Carnival ships docking that you can hear all the announcements! Stayed on QM last year and it was a wonderful experience!

Thanks everyone for the help and info. I think we are gonna go with the QM for the night before our cruise on the Panorama over Christmas.
