It’s so trivial but Celebrity can no longer afford prizes for trivia.

According to a friend onboard Equinox right now, players will no longer receive a prize if they win the daily quiz.  Last week winners received a deck of cards but that has now been discontinued.  Modern luxury has claimed another victory over an activity that does not generate revenue. Cut, cut, cut is the mantra.

No incentive for some to cheat anymore. 😉

The cheating that had been taking place was getting out of control.   The feeling was that if there are no prizes,  it could cut down this practice and make it more enjoyable for all.

We were on the Summit two weeks ago and our team won black fabric eye glass cases. I honestly gave no thought to the "prize". What did bother me is... they are now down to 15 questions. Guess the Cruise Director (who in my opinion was the absolute worst of out our 29 Celebrity and 8 RCI cruises) was given the directive by Celebrity's very, very "Senior" Manager to cut that back too!!!!!

We went to a Wheel of Fortune game show.   People were yelling out the answers before one letter was given.   The CC said it is amazing that passengers knew the answers so fast.

REALLY?

They should change the questions.

Do you really need to cheat or go to the game shows after a B2B to get a cheap prize?

People with unlimited internet and those with note books containing answers from previous cruises take may take fun out of it,  but  then again  using it as entertainment and not concerned about getting a cheap price it doesn’t really matter as it is entertaining and fun to participate and also watch those that will go to any lengths to get a cheap prize.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

RCL had cut back prizes to only be a tally by the end of the cruise, instead of per event, (e.g. if you have 10 points at the end you can get a pen) so unsurprising Celebrity also cut back.

On our cruise on the Silhouette in March we were given 6 vouchers when we won a trivia quiz as we were a team of only 2 whereas some teams were a 6. On the last day we could redeem them for prizes. As we won 5 times we ended up with 2 beach towels a mug, pen and deck of cards.

Off the Eclipse this morning (Sunday) and the prizes were lanyards and decks of cards. Four people max to a team and, of course, no internet use.

We had fun for the most part but there's always at least one who takes it so seriously, you're glad they don't allow knives on board, but I still have one or two slits in my back!

That practice was in place on the Millie 3 years ago.

Wow.. dorsn't cheating take the fun out of the activity?  For cheaters and everyone.  Sign of the times,

Are they also doing the " pay "  trivia in the theater or online.? ...Had it on EDGE but also had reg trivia in the Grand Foyer Martini Bar area..

Good. There are too many cheaters and we have watched them. One group wrote multiple answers and crossed out the wrong ones. If they were totally wrong they wrote the right one. ( every day on a 15 night cruise).  Shows some adults can't be trusted to mark their own papers. We have also seen internet used .  We don't care if we win  but this takes all the fun out of it.

Love trivia competitions!  Met my husband at a charity quiz about 30 years ago when one of his pals took me along to supposedly boost their team! We always do the shipboard trivia’s when we cruise and enjoy teaming up with folk from different countries so that we all learn something new. It is great fun whether we win or lose, and the “trivia crowd” on a progressive Transatlantic Cruise trivia have always been delightful. It’s a shame if folks cheat, as it is a fun activity with nice people having fun together.

There is no need to break the brain for a deck of cards, guest relations can give you one free set.

I asked if they can give me some used ones from the casino and they said no and they gave me a couple of the normal ones

Sometimes on our B2B cruises we will sit and watch the trivia games for both legs of the cruise. Second leg same questions and some of the same people (team) from the first leg playing again and end up winning this on the second leg. Imagine that!  🙄

I am shocked!  I may no longer cruise Celebrity until they restore an insignificant prize for winning trivia.:classic_rolleyes:

There are cruisers who have been on for many weeks and show up for trivia.  Guess what?  Some  answer the questions before they are finished.  And who ever is in their group ends up being on the winning team in most cases.  Then there are the ones who "are checking their email"....

I vote for no prizes as even the insignificant ones  can bring out the worse in some people.

The Activity Hosts know what is going on.
