How does Yacht Club on Meraviglia compare to Seaside and Divina?

Recommended Posts

We've been on YC on both Seaside and Divina.

How is Meraviglia different?

I realize it has not been in the US yet, so while there are review, I can't seem to get a feel for the differences, if any?

I know Meraviglia has a larger YC.  Does it "feel" more crowded?  What deck on M is preferred?

Do most people find the service from the butlers and concierges still the same (excellent)?

What's the opinion of the restaurant?

How's the pool deck? ever crowded?

Entertainment?

Lots of questions, I know.  :classic_sad:

Meraviglia YC is lacking forward viewing deck.

The Top sail lounge on the Seaside is way more spectacular.

No spa sun deck on Meraviglia.

The rest of the ship (Meraviglia) is a closed-in floating anthill vs beautiful open spaces on the Seaside.

MSC Seaside / Seaview are currently best MSC ships. The Meraviglia is a huge step down, especially for the Caribbean cruises.

Happy cruising!

I appreciate your remarks.

I think I have to get a hold of a brochure/deck plan to fully understand what you're saying.

When you're saying no forward viewing deck, you don't mean that the Top Sail Lounge doesn't overlook the forward part of the ship, do you?

How about the restaurant?  The same set up as Seaside?

The pool area?  Similar to Seaside....or Divina?

Have you been on her?

I'm trying to decide between YC Meraviglia vs. Haven Escape.

I have a deck plan of MSC Meraviglia.  YC public areas surely show forward views.  Whether there is an outside observation deck, I am not sure.

There is not an outdoor deck, like SS has forward of the Topsail.  Topsail on SS is 2 stories high windows, MG is one story.  Interesting, on Bell and Grand subsequently, they changed the design after Mera to go with the two story glass in the Topsail like on SS.  They realized after I think that was a big loss in the original design.  None the less, the Topsail looks beautiful as does the restaurant.  The restaurant has the windows as well (one story) however they put a table height counter or plant stand (don't know how else to say it) across the entire front, so the windows really are table high, if that makes sense.

Youtube has plenty of good video reviews and Vlogs, I'd check them out.

Mera has a lot in common with the Divina, Splendida, etc Yacht club spaces, more than SS I'd say.

Seaside is my first choice, however Mera has a lot to offer as well, if you enjoy a lot of indoor activity as we do.  There's more shade on the Mera YC Sundeck though, and that's a welcome feature for us.  On SS if you don't get those few loungers in the shad eon the side, no shade for you (other than a cabana or dining tables).

I'm not sure Mera is an 'anthill' though, her spaces are equally as beautiful inside and the Promenade is a nice feature.  At night, Seaside interior venues for dancing and activities (Haven Lounge) gets really really overcrowded, as they are small.  Looks like the design of Mera gives more interior space for these venues.

Either way, can't go wrong in my opinion.

Mafig,

I think Sailbreakaway has answered your additional questions.

As to Escape vs Meraviglia...

The Escape is a far superior ship overall.

However, please note that Haven experience differs significantly from ship to ship. IMO NCL Haven is a huge waste of money unless you sail on the Bliss/Joy/Encore.

YC Seaside surpasses all Havens except the "Bliss-class" ships.

As you have sailed in the YC on the Seaside, can you now imagine the YC without the Top sail lounge? This is what the Haven on the Escape will be.

My "mini guide" for NCL mega ships is as follows:

Only Breakaway of Escape for non-Haven (must extras: specialty restaurants + spa)

Only Bliss for Haven (must extras: spa).

Happy cruising!

Are you purposely trying to confuse me???  LOL:classic_biggrin:

Almost every post I've read raves about how the Escape has the nicest Haven.  That's why I've limited my research to that ship.  If I hadn't been away from NCL for so long I would probably know all this just from reading the threads.  Now I do feel lost.

The pictures of the Haven pool kind of in a hole do turn me off.  However, I do like the Aft Penthouse with the large balcony.  I also have heard Meraviglia is crowded. But we were on Seaside last year and usually wait a while to repeat a ship, unless it has a spectacular itinerary which I don't think Seaside has.

We haven't been on the newest NCL ships (Joy/Bliss) but did Escape last year.  It was best Haven we'd have and far better than when we were on BA.  However, sailing on Seaside and Divinia the front lounge, pool, snacks in the lounge and food by the pool, are better than Escape.  The Bliss and Joy seemed to have copied this concept from other lines.

We have Mera booked for next year and have studied it quite a bit.  I've read about the more closed in feeling of Mera vs. Seaside but not really too worried about it being in YC.

🙂

Mafig,

A couple of pictures from the Bliss:

While in the YC, we actually spend more time outside the YC (open promenade, specialty restaurants, shows,  larger pools, buffet, etc). So "the rest of the ship" is important for the YC guests too.

Happy cruising!

Good to know because I like to be out in the fresh air once in awhile, but I don't appreciate having to do so when there is little or no shade.

Haven pools are useless but if you don't mind the price difference, I'd pick Haven.

Hi there! We have sailed NCL Haven twice and NCL suite on a non-Haven ship. We have also sailed YC on Seaside. Next up is YC1 on Meraviglia. We are doing the transatlantic out of Copenhagen and our cabin is on deck 18. If you have any specific questions, I would be glad to get answers for you! We sail Sept 22 and disembark Oct 8.

Since you've sailed in both Haven and YC, you probably have your own biases. For us, butler escort at embarkation from curbside, the butler escort at every port, the Top Sail Lounge, the full access to Aurea spa, plus the priority elevators seal the deal for us! We love the YC. I confess I am annoyed that NCL has extended their nickel & diming to the Haven product, specifically charging gratuities on the drink package. And in my opinion, they've cheapened the product by allowing others to bid on a Haven upgrade despite the fact we've essentially paid full price. But that's just me 🙂

Anyway, let me know if I can provide any Meraviglia feedback to help you out!
