Terminal to LAX

Where are travelling on the Jewel which will dock in Los Angeles on October 13 at the end of the cruise. What are our options for travelling from the cruise ship to the airport?

Ship transfer, Uber, Taxi, private car service, walk ..... the usual.

We are boarding the Jewel on the 13th to the 18th! I booked a SuperShuttle for travel from Port of Los Angeles to LAX. I was considering Uber/Lyft but was concerned about surge pricing and availability so I decided to be safe and book the Supershuttle.

It’s about a 20 mile walk, so allow a day to get to the airport. 

 

We we caught a SuperShuttle last time. They have a lot of cans right outside the terminal and dispatch them as soon as they fill.

I405 between the port and LAX is the most heavily trafficked section of freeway in all the US. But we did it on SuperShuttle in about 25 minutes last June at about 9am. I'd use them again.

You can do this - repeat after me -

North on the 110 to the junction of the 405
vector northwest on the 405 to the junction
of the 105 - west to the intersect with Hwy 1
Sepulveda Blvd - tunnel under runways and
arrive at the mayhem of a perpetual construction
zone - Recent changes have several airlines
moved to new locations.

Best that the transfer selection you make goes
solely to your airline - you do not want to make
the grand rounds of the airport making an endless
loop until you do.

 

Use a private hire car for best service point to point.
A shuttle service is perhaps the next best although
the ride in the jitney bus*** may leave much to be desired.
Lastly the NCL motor coach transfer bus - comfortable
will get you there but may have other airline stops in
between.

No traffic - no helicopers pacing criminals (OJ) -
no accidents - YES - a half hour fast ride from
the NCL terminal to your airline is possible.

 

Now factor in a contingency plan B - be conservative
you have luggage to check and the dreaded TSA
gaunlet to arrive at your gate to comfortably board
stowing your carry on in the rapidly decreasing
overhead bin space.

Now bring the drink cart around ASAP !

We've used Super Shuttle several times.  LAX though can be a major nightmare when you get there though.

Super Shuttles easy and if you have AAA you can get a 10% discount if pre-booked 

 

Weve also used Lyft and Uber w No problems

We used the NCL transfer to LAX. It's strange because we just walked right onto the bus and nobody checked tickets or verified that anyone paid the fare. Maybe we just had a lazy driver...

The times you have used the SS did it go to your airline first ?

Was it a dedicated shuttle to that airline of those in close by terminals ?

This can be very important if trying to make a flight !

 Los Angeles airport is a horseshoe with 7 terminals. The shuttle travels around the horseshoe making one stop per terminal. That is the closest any other shuttle or bus will get you.  Think small terminal.

I have used the NCL Transfer service one bus goes to terminals on the north horseshoe - terminals 1-2-3

another to 4-5 and a third to 7-8.

If you are leaving on a United flight (terminal 7or8) you don't want to be going to 1-2-3 wasting time.

 

In general:

Terminal 1 Southwest

Terminals 2-3 Delta and its code share partners

Terminal "B" International flights

4-5 American and code shares

7-8 United and code shares

 

My question or interest was - is the shuttle loaded similar to the NCL Transfer ?

Getting on the right bus or shuttle is imperative when time is of essence.

Welcome to Cruise Critic!!     San Pedro is quite a way from LAX.  Super shuttle is used by most. RideShare and taxis available.    It does take some time to get to LAX as LA traffic is the worst. Pack your patience and plan flights accordingly.

Unless you need to go to Bradley Terminal (international travel) top of horseshoe, you can take left drive short cuts to terminals 4-7.   You  forgot...

Terminal 6 is ALASKA Airline and Air Canada.

There is construction going on to remodel outside Terminals 5,6,and 7 until November 20.  Drop off for those will be horrible.

We get dropped at arrivals at LAX for departures and go upstairs.

Yes I know that - from my post awhile back:

Delta was the major player in this move costing some + billion dollars

Delta moved from 5 - 2&3.

 

Knowing where your airline is as critical as the time element getting to

"Are we there Yet" ! 

Knowing the transportation details down to the wire making that seemingly

impossible flight - can be done !
