Drydock Schedule for Freeport?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have the current dry dock list for HAL? Are any HAL ships scheduled for dry dock in the bahamas in the next year or so? Time for us to stay flexible as the future of Freeport sounds pretty dismal and the domino effect will most certainly change existing itineraries :(.

Zuiderdam is scheduled for December 1st to 9th.

I have a feeling these two refurbs will be put off until next year.  At this late date it is doubtful an alternate facility can be found. The Noordam is getting a dry docking next month but its in Vancouver.

Based on the link, it doesn't look like many of the HAL ships wait the full 5 years before a scheduled inspection. That's nice!  They can skip refurbishment without issue. The only ship I see that falls into the 5 year rule is Noordam and Vancouver should be fine. HAL may be a line of choice for a bit as the others scramble.

Can they put them off? I thought it was a rule that they needed inspection every 5 years.

HAL puts their ships in every 30 months or so, so they should be well within any requirements.

If you look down the board, there is already a discussion about whether or not the dry dock facilities will be available or not.

A lot will depend on the damage done to the shipyard at Freeport.   We should know more in a week or two.

That's good news for cruisers and even better news for the shiptard workers who will have a much needed income during this very difficult period.

It appears the Zuiderdam will be on time with it's scheduled dry dock.  Good, because we're on the Zuiderdam's first cruise following dry dock.  I wonder what changes will be made - any ideas?

While it is true that newer ships only need to drydock every 5 years, the statutory requirement is twice in 5 years.  With ships less than 15 years old, the mid-period drydock inspection (2.5 years +-) can be replaced with an underwater survey using divers and video, and this is the way most cruise lines go, but not HAL.

Volendam is 20 years old, so she needs to actually drydock every 2.5 years, so this is going to be a hard statutory limit.  Given her delivery date of 1999 (month unknown), she will have to drydock within a month of the month of delivery.

Zuiderdam is 17, with a delivery date of December, 2002, so her dates run from 12/2019 to 6/2020 for her intermediate drydocking.
