Embarkation

Hi. We have been given a time of 1.30 for embarkation for our cruise but are booked into a hotel the night before and have to check out by 11a.m, with only a 10 minute taxi ride to the port. Can anyone tell me if it is okay to go direct to the embarkation lounge and wait?

Just go to the terminal and drop your bags off with the porter's.

When you go inside you are given a coloured card with a letter and number on it.

Take a seat with hundreds of others and when your letter and number is called you can check in.

They don't start taking cases until about 11.30 ,at the hole in the wall. After that you would be welcome to sit in the terminal. When you enter the terminal you will be given a card based on your embarkation time. You may board earlier than 1.30, you may not. I wouldn,t try getting to the terminal before 11.30 ,as you may not be able to hand your cases over to anyone. You may have to check out of your room by 11am, but does the hotel have a lounge you can wait in for a while.

Some hotels let you check out from your room and wait in their foyer for a taxi.  Holiday Inn for example has a bar that does coffee and light snacks.   An early morning coffee will take up a little bit of time so you then arrive at the cruise terminal slightly later at a time when bags can be deposited immediately but are still early in the terminal's schedule.

In your situation we would take this option, I thought it was only Blackpool landladies that turfed you out of their lodgings early.

Most hotels will hold your luggage securely after you check out, for collection later that day. If yours will, you could leave your luggage at the hotel for a couple of hours then pick it up nearer your embarcation time.

Was on Britannia a week or so ago. All 3 of our cabins were given a 3.30pm embarkation. Arrived about 12, handed over cases, checked in and walked straight onto the ship. Hope that helps!

I would check out of your hotel room at 11am get the hotel receptionist to call you a taxi for 11-30am and then just go to the terminal. It might be that you will have to wait a while but very much doubt it will be until 1-30pm.

Exactly our experience on Ventura 3 weeks ago.

Until the coaches arrive at 1.30-2.15 om approximately, they just want to get you on. Suite and Ligurian Tier passengers will start boarding at or before 12 noon, followed quickly by Baltic and Caribbean tier. After that they call early arrivals in order, those with the earliest times first as they will have been given the fastest cards, but then anyone else who's there, because they know when the coaches arrive it will take ages to board everyone. So if you have a time after 2pm, it's best to arrive before one. The Suite and high tiers will be on, and you'll follow the 1.30 people immediately. Get there at 1.30 and you might wait until 3 as all the coach passengers get on.
