Royal Princess delay leaving Vancouver / 9.14.2019

Seems backasswards to me.  I would think the fuel supplier is in control and charge of what they are providing and should just default be on the customer's head.  I wonder if this is the way it works in other countries.  The ship could be kept around a long time if they make it wait until fully cleaned up.  I wonder how fast a clean-up crew arrives?  I am realizing I don't know much about this.  I wonder if @chengkp75 knows something?

The ship (Princess) assumes responsibility for the oil at the flange where the hose is connected to the ship. So this is likely on the supplier. However, both the ship and the supplier have oil spill response companies on "retainer" so they are both required by their SOPEP or spill response manual to get them coming right away. But it can take an hour or so to get onsite, so both companies will start their own remediation procedures, and yes, they will have to scrub the ship before it can leave.

Then you should have explained yourself more clearly. That expression can be taken both ways.

No reasonable person would’ve interpreted it that way

The early departure notice we received suggested there were speed restrictions down the west coast so we may not be able to make up the time

I'm pretty sure the "speed restrictions" apply only to marine sanctuaries in U.S. territorial waters off the west coast.  I may be incorrect about that, but my thinking is that the Royal Princess can "boogey" south in international waters--and open the casino--until it gets to the Channel Islands, turn left, and reduce speed for the last few miles into the San Pedro harbor.

I will be boarding the Royal Princess on the 17th.  I've already postponed my driver who is transporting us to the port.  However, I am mentally preparing for a "zoo scene" when we arrive.

I just read the same information on the Roll Call for our cruise.  So. I guess my previous post was much too optimistic.

I may have to give my driver another call.

Current ETA is 12:30pm, so we will miss our flight.  Captain Nash said we will get a letter this evening.

I’m sad for everyone who will have to stress about changing flights and paying extra to do so, but I’m happy for you guys to have a bonus morning onboard!

I hadn't thought of that.  There is a very real possibility that whales could be sighted as the ship approaches the harbor.  Blues have been around, lately,

DW & I are to be boarding the 12 day Alaska.  It's only two days til we board, any big enough advantage in doing the Medallion now?  I know that a quick walk thru if PAX's have the physical medallion but that won't be the situation for us.  Is there a shorter line for those who did all the at home prep for the Medallion but could not get it mailed to them in time?

The ‘bonus morning’ is not going to come anywhere near compensating for the additional cost for a one way flight home...$650.  Glad I have good travel insurance that will reimburse me.  I am very disappointed that Princess woukdn’t Kick in at least a $25 OBC.  They are giving ice phone call or some internet minutes!!

In Vancouver yesterday, they had two lines. The one that had a sign indicating for passengers that received their Medallion at home, also stated “or have your OceanReady pass” and showed the pass printed and on a phone.  It seemed that they were only directing folks that had their Medallion with them to that line.  Everyone else was sent to the other line regardless if you had your OceanReady pass printed or on your phone.  We were there early and they started check-in at 9:45. Not sure what it was like, or if it was different later in the day.

Apparently there was an oil spill on the oil boat filling Royal Princess today in Vancouver.   We were told Princess is responsible for the clean up since they were purchasing the oil.  We were supposed to leave Vancouver at 3:30...it’s now almost 5:00 and we’re still alongside Canada Place 🇨🇦.   Now we’re hearing we maybe here awhile as the tides coming in and the ship will not clear Lions Gate Bridge until the tide goes back out.  We’re waiting on an update now.   Supposed to arrive in LA on Tuesday morning at 8:30....Doubt that will happen.  The 12-day to Alaska might be delayed?   Will update when we hear....

I’ve been on the ship since 10:45am! No issues from my end. I’m going with whatever happens. I do get the frustration of those on-board that we’re forced to change flights due to early sail time!

Wishing you a fantastic cruise Ceili - Have Fun!!

We're in the Royal Princess now and had to rebook our flights which cost us $800.  There was $400 in change fees so out the original $408 cost + $800 for the same flights at a later time.

Travel insurance won't cover because it's a common carrier issue and I confirmed with them this morning.

On the phone now with Princess on shore to try to work it out.....

It doesn’t fall under the post-cruise trip delay with the Princess Vacation Protection? Or did you have non-Princess insurance?

We didn’t make up enough time last night apparently so new ETA is 2pm. Those folks changing flights based on 12:30 may have to change again! No word on our EZ Air flights yet..,

When my biggest problem in life is having to spend an extra 6 hours on a ship, I’m thinking life is ok!
