New Norwegian cruiser with a couple of questions

Hi, I just booked my first Norwegian Freestyle Cruise and I'm super excited! I've cruised 11 times with Carnival, but the lure of some crazy cheap hurricane  season prices and the free at sea offers convinced me to try out NCL! We leave a week from today for a 5 day cruise on the Sky! My questions are, does NCL do there dailies on an app that you can access while ship with your phone, or do they still do paper only?

Also on carnivals on board app they have the option where you can message other people who also have the app while on board. Does Norwegian have anything like this? Thanks

Not the full daily, but you can get showtimes and most of the hour-by-hour list to have on hand - like what you'd see on the monitors by the staircases.  This was the case on the Escape in July using their app.

They have a messaging function, not sure if you have to buy the internet package to access it.

Still do paper for full info

app shows more of highlights but still a lot of info

they have a message part to the app there is a fee to use which is $10 per phone which then gives your phone a number that can be texted or called from either someone else with the app or called from any phone on ship

Thank you! This is what carnival had and is great for finding family and friends on the ship! I don't need the full internet just want to stay in contact with family on the ship!

Just make sure you download the app and have it available on all devices before you leave.  I made a point to download it on my iPad but didn't think about my iPhone, since it was already there from previous cruises.  Apple had archived it to save space due to lack of recent use.  NCL gives you a free 10 mins of internet to get the app downloaded at sea, but it was so slow that I couldn't get it completed.

Good advice thank you!

We are also primarily Carnival cruisers and found a fantastic deal for an 11day Panama cruise and jumped on it. We are naturally nervous as we love Carnival, but excited to start this new journey on Norwegian Pearl Nov 2021. I won curious too if they had something similar to Fun Times for daily information. Sounds like they do.

The daily events are pretty much the same across cruise lines...  front page blurbs about today's port of call, when bingo is, maybe the headline show, inside has some more blurbs, then a full page schedule, back page has things like restaurant hours.  Inserts for onshore shopping.

Their paper funtimes is the Freestyle Daily.

The app didn't seem to list all the things, you can make dining reservations in the app. They don't have set times or set tables.

You may need to make reservations for the shows/comedy, which was different for me from Carnival.

They have an app!  I'm sure it works on all ships by now (we've only been on the newer ships since the app came out). I believe the app is free for making reservations and checking out what's going on around the ship.  I think the $10 charge is only if you want to use it to communicate with other passengers.  They also have touch screens around the elevators where you can make reservations for dinner and shows.

We are Carnival cruisers who went on the Sky this summer.  The apps are very similar, and are easy to use.  For the most part, I used the daily paper to track activities.

The crew on the sky is great.  The open bar concept is really nice.

Cagney's is very good.

I do wish the show entertainers worked more with the passengers like they do on Carnival.

You will have a good time on the ship.

Thanks NWA we are a little nervous to try a new cruiseline. We love carnival, hopefully we will love NCL just as much after next week.

You might observe more older people on NCL, but around the pools there's a younger crowd.

I like the buffet better on Carnival - I prefer comfort food, and their deli and panini stations are better than on NCL.

Ignore the onslaught of Carnival jokes.  And don't miss the "Dancing With the Stars" spoof if they run it.
