Hepatitis A Caribbean Cruise

Recommended Posts

My husband and I got hepatitis A most likely from Disney World decades ago, missed 4 - 6 weeks of work, it was like a stomach bug that lasted many weeks. Dropped so much weight, and pretty much had to stay quarantined. You can catch it anywhere.

Wow - six months! Have you decided between oral and injection for typhoid. When I've taken it, I've chosen the oral because it lasts for 5 years. The shot is only 2 years. You should still be careful about where you eat. Typhoid vaccine is only moderately effective (estimates from 50 to 80% effectiveness).

Thanks, probably oral. My PCP said to avoid any street vendors selling food.  I've never followed that advice in the Caribbean, Hawaii, or Polynesia, but I definitely will in Egypt.

Whether you travel or not, I'd recommend Hep A and the Hep B series for anyone.

I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express the other night.

I take the oral.  The organism is an oral transmitted, so it makes more sense to apply the vaccine that way.

So says my ex, who was a microbiologist.

In Egypt, brush your teeth with bottled water.

And no ice in drinks.  Even alcoholic ones.

Soda, beer, and wine are OK to drink.
