Old San Juan

I agree,  if the forts are not your thing going to the beach and having drinks and an early dinner is not that bad either.

If you never went to the forts though,  should be a stop and you will have a little of time of you disembark fast enough... 🙂

Just found out our ship doesn't get into Port until 4pm.  Are the forts still open?  What else is open?

Yes you can make the forts stay open till 6pm half the year during the winter months.  Mostly everything will be open 🙂

If I'm not mistaken, the forts close at 6pm, regardless of the season. I have always wondered why they don't extend the summer hours until 7pm since there's quite enough sunlight time left after that hour from May to August. You should be one of the first in line to leave the ship once it docks and, if no one in you party has any mobility issues, walk to San Cristobal fort. It's a 10 minute walk north from the ship but mostly uphill. If you want to visit El Morro and maximize your time there take a quick taxi ride to the fort and enjoy San Juan walking back to the ship.
