New to MSC

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I’m new to everything MSC, really interested in cruising with MSC next summer on the MSC Seaside. We’re typically a large group cruising (20+ people) ranging in ages 3 to 70...I’ve only cruised Carnival, while some of my group have done Royal. Please give me all info possible...

how does MSC flow vs Carnival?

is there a formal night?

do we get assigned a dining room and time? Can I choose my preference?

what are the daily activities like?

how does tipping work? Sail and sign accounts?

sorry for so many questions 😊 but huge thank you in advance!

Well, one thing I can say, is that it is going to be different.  Not quite sure what you mean by 'flow', but Seaside is laid out very differently from any Carnival ship I have sailed.  Four pool areas.  Two buffet areas, which really cuts down on the breakfast and lunch mess when you can't find a table.  You book by Experience (Bella, Fantastica, Aurea or Yacht Club).  Within those categories, you choose inside, OV, balcony, suite.  All Bella OV cabins will be the same price, regardless of location.  Same with OVs, balconies, etc.  One caveat:  If you are accustomed to booking people in cabins to maximize discounts or arrange beverage packages, and getting extra keys, MSC apparently does not issue extra keys.  They expect you to sleep where you book.

You will be assigned a dining room, table, and time.  There is no anytime dining unless you book Aurea experience, or Yacht Club.  Each dining room has three seatings.  There is also a show each night with three show times.  Sail & Sign works the same but you have to activate your account at a kiosk onboard, that looks like an ATM

Any specific questions, please ask.  EM

This is really new to us. Have never done this on any other cruise line. We sail Monday on Armonia so assuming we will encounter this also.  Will we need to do immediately upon boarding or is there a grace period? Will we be able to have a drink before doing this or should we rush to do it.   Are lines long to do this?

I believe you have a couple of days to do this.  Take your cruise card and credit card.  I had to try three different machines before I got one to work.  this one was at the casino bar.  If using cash, I think you might have to do it at guest services.  Yes, you can have a drink or two or three before doing this.  Lots of machines around, so no long lines.

MSC is integrating pre boarding account set up. Soon you will be able to do the complete check in on the app.

Unfortunately, the app is not available for all ships.  Not available for Armonia.  EM
