Yet another 72 hour sale paired with 3 for Free...this time for 2020 Alaska cruises, and some Hawaii, Mexico, and CA Coast cruises under the Great Escapes promo. Looks like added free MedallionNet wifi. Fine print explains free minutes option if ship doesn't have MedallionNet. I am wondering if this would benefit us in addition to our Elite free 250 internet minutes? (depending on what our fares do tomorrow of course)

*Fares apply to minimum lead-in categories on a space-available basis at time of booking. Fares for other categories may vary. Fares are per guest, non-air, cruise- or cruisetour-only, based on double  occupancy and apply to the first two guests in a stateroom. ^^^^^^^ BEST PART OF ALL (it actually says "refundable deposit" for 3FF!) And if someone books in the next three days can also get the reduced $100pp deposit. Great Escapes promo still says nonrefundable deposit so would need to call in and ask about refundable deposit fare options.

So anyone booked on a summer 2020 Alaska cruise, I checked this 72 hour free Wifi promo that started today and it doesn't really confirm how much free Wifi is provided on MedallionNet enabled ships. There are also inconsistencies with the promo terms and what shows in a mock booking popup window (it shows free grat's for guests 1 and 2 only, vs. "for all guests - up to 4 per stateroom" - as is clearly stated in the 3 For Free promo terms; and it also shows the free "MedallionNet 4-Device Promo 2-30day" for 2 guests, vs. in the promo terms it says Free Wifi for all guests). I snickered at that last one because it even says "4 Device" yet says it is for only 2 guests. And to top it off, our fare went up $195pp. So I will pass on this but someone else might find it useful. I would just confirm the above inconsistencies with Princess first.

I read many complaints about the slow wifi on Alaskan sailings due to the geography, so I guess they have to give it away instead of trying to sell it.

I think with our cruise they are doing this because the MedallionNet Wifi will be brand new on that ship. The Star is supposed to get it on 6/12/20. Don't know about the other ships in Alaska next summer.

It doesn't matter if it's MedallionNet or not.....as the ship heads north, it won't be able to align with the satellites.

Well ironically, with the free WI-FI included (regardless of how good it is) my fare is lower than what I had refared to with the 3/for free special.  So for another $80/savings I will take the free WI-FI 😁.

The OP asked about this but I don't think anyone has responded about this particular question.  We have a 14-day Alaskan cruise planned on the Golden Princess.  This is not a MedallionNet ship, so the promo says we will receive 240 minutes of free internet.  Will this be in addition to the 250 free minutes that Platinum/Elite passengers get?

I believe you are sailing on the Star.  We were on her in April and since the ship is being sold they are not putting in Medallion.

Here is a link to the ship schedule for implementation and the Star is not on it.

Rocklinmom--I called Princess and they confirmed that the 240 free minutes would be in addition to the 250 free minutes we get for being Platinum/Elite.  I re-fared my cruise and I got a little worried when nothing about the free internet showed up on my Booking Confirmation.  But when I looked under the Internet Section it was listed as a Complimentary Gift under Reservations & Purchases.

It appears on your Travel Summary.

We saved some money AND got the free WiFi! Since our Medallion Internet (using Elite minutes) was so slow last summer in AK, I appreciate having the unlimited next year. I’m going to compare speeds to determine if they have the minute by minute internet speed set lower than the unlimited internet speed, or if it’s all slow due to being so far north, or if it’s all of he above.
