Big Torii Gate in Miyajima under scaffolding

Perhaps this has been posted before but if so I missed it. Anyone planning a trip to Hiroshima and Myyajima (and one really should) please be advised that as of today, 9/26/19 it is under scaffolding.   According to this site: https://www.japan-guide.com/event/construction.html it started in June 2019 and is scheduled to take at least a year. So if you expect to see the second picture below, don’t be disappointed when you actually see the first! (We still has a great day in Hiroshima even with this disappointment).

We visited in 2012, partially inspired by TAR season 20, and it was under scaffolding back then too!  I wonder if being out in the water it takes way more of a beating?

It was still a nice walk about on the island and +1 on recommending a visit to Hiroshima.

Our goodwill guide says it has to have major work every ten years or so.
