Galveston Lodgings near Pier

Recommended Posts

We have sailed out of Galveston once.  We stayed at an Embassy Suites, I believe.  We did not have a car, as we took some sort of shuttle from Houston and there was noplace near the Embassy to walk to for dinner (although there was a grocery store).  It looked kind of cute when we were taken down by the pier the next morning....are there some things to do down there and a nice place to stay?  We have a 10 a.m. flight from Milwaukee on Friday and will be getting to Galveston early enough to actually do something besides just eat....so looking for a nice hotel and maybe a grocery that sells liquor....thanks

Harbor house is right there next to the cruise terminal.  We will be staying there in July for our Freedom cruise.

There are several piers but I'm assuming you're talking about the one with all the rides and games, the Pleasure Pier? It's owned by Landry's (Tillman Fertitta) so there's lots to eat around there.

Just a note, grocery stores can't sell hard liquor here. Only beer and wine. If you want liquor you have to buy it at a liquor store. They're easy to find.

Also, liquor stores in Texas can operate 10 AM to 9 PM Monday through Saturday, never on Sunday.

We're booked at Harbor House for November cruise as we wont have a car either.    Close enough that we can walk to the ship if we want but have been told there is shuttle at Harbor House in case the weather is nasty.

Picked them because they seem to get consistently good reviews and there seems to be a lot  within walking distance.

Harbor house is perfect and there’s a liquor store on the Strand (Frank’s) just a couple of blocks away.
