Mariner Status

I got upped from a two star to three star after the first of a back to back cruise.  I just went to the front desk and they printed me a new room card with the three star logo on it and my three star discount applied to the second B2B segment with no problems.  That was on the Oosterdam in 2018

We are 3 days shy of advancing from 4 to 5 star. We are booked on four consecutive segments (with four separate booking numbers) on the Westerdam starting in May.

Will the 5 star status begin with our second segment, or will we have to wait for the next voyage after this one?

Thanks

Since you're only 3 points shy of 5*, AND you're booked on a B2B2B2B (!!), I would ask the Mariner Society if they would grant you 5* status starting on Day 4 of your first cruise.  We were 2 points shy of moving to 3* a few years ago and they put it in the system that we were approved to move up during the cruise (it was a 14 day voyage).  They told us to go to the Front Desk on Day 3 to get our new card - and it was there waiting for us and we got to start using the 25% discount on specialty dining, etc. immediately.  🙂  Anyway, worth an ask.

Looks like the "next cruise" rule is getting to be pretty arbitrary. When we were 2 short to move to 4* they wouldn't give it to us until the next cruise.

We'll likely earn 18-20 cruise day credits on our upcoming Eurodam cruise, which will leave us just 1-3 short of 3 star.  I'll need one more trip to get there...

Well, I was wrong about being short to make three-star...we did it with this trip!!  Turns out that using our card to get cash for the casino must have counted toward on-board spending because when you add that to what we actually spent on board, we easily came up with the full 11 bonus credits along with the 11 sailing day credits for our Eurodam.  Add those 22 to the 53 we had on the books, and we are exactly 75...three star for our next HAL voyage!!

I do have a question about the next level for us....we have been "cruising" at 3 star for awhile now...and I think we are "knocking on the door" of 4 star.

Because HAL has ships in SD a lot of the year...most of our cruises have been R/T out of SD. ...and to be honest most have been R/T to Mexico, HI (several times) with one major T/P to Australia and 1 "re-po" to Canada (which was wonderful and we loved learning about "Bloody Caesar's"!!! :)

It seems like...TBH...we aren't going to get a lot of "extras' going from 3 to 4 stars? YES...I do love the laundry...but what else? We have been sailing a lot on Celebrity and Azamara...and we are at "Elite Plus"/"Discover Plus": with them...and we do seem to get quite of bit of free internet time/ Happy Hours etc...with that level...??? am I missing something?

I sure don't want to "Rock the Boat"...but TBH it seems like HAL's 4 star is maybe lacking a bit "of a kick"???? What am I missing??? HELP please!!! :)  LuAnn

If I book an excursion online before my cruise, will that count as onboard spending and give me Mariner points toward my next level?

Yes. It's the expenditures attributed to your account (minus casino charges) that credit toward Mariner status. It does not matter when they were charged, nor even who paid for them.

But that are only applied at the end of the cruise. If you are really close to 4* you can call the Mariner folks, I've heard they sometimes allow you to get the perk for your next cruise.

For us the free laundry was the definitely the best perk, completely changed how we pack. The 50% off the wine packages was was also really good, basically it returns the wine prices back to their "normal" land pricing.

That seems to happen mainly on longer cruises, like 14 days and higher. When we were 2 days short of 4* it did not happen for us on a 7-day.
