Any last minute suggestions for Zuiderdam

Recommended Posts

We will be on the Zuiderdam on Wednesday for repo cruise from Quebec City to ft. Lauderdale. Never done this itinerary or been on this ship so any hints, suggestions would certainly be appreciated. (QC, Charlottetown, Sydney, Halifax, Portland, Boston, Newport, NYC). Flying into Quebec day before so planning on site seeing here as well. Thanks

  • Definitely explore Quebec City.  Great "old town" area by the pier, uptown area just above it and the fortress nearby.  Plus MANY other things nearby.  Great city!

As to your stops - one thing I really liked that you might not think of is in Sydney.  There is an excursion to a coal mining museum which includes a walking tour of an old mine (actually runs under the ocean!).

In Halifax there also are many things to see/do and you can take a nice stroll along the boardwalk.

Boston - do the Freedom Trail for alot of history and local sites.  Have lunch in one of the Italian places along the route.  We also did the Tea Party museum, which was well worth it (took a local bus to the museum right from the port - see details on the East Coast CC board).

In Newport, don't miss the Mansions. I highly recommend The Breakers, Marble House, and Rosecliff. After the first two, Rosecliff is remarkably livable.

If you like tennis, and are mobile, the International Hall of Fame is not too far to walk. Have lunch on the porch at La Forge Casino, overlooking the courts.

While in the area, take a stroll along Cliff Walk.

We just returned recently from the Voyage of the Vikings on the Zuiderdam and had a great time.  All of the ship staff are wonderful and the new tender boats were way better than their older models.

We had an especially great tour out of Halifax using Les Daurie Owner of Halifax Taxi Tours.com  He takes 6 people for $390 Canadian (or credit card) for the VEHICLE.  We went to see Lindenburg-Mahone Bay tour for 6 hours.  He also does the popular Peggy's Cove as well.

http://www.halifaxtaxitours.com/   He met us at the pier on time and dropped us off as well.   Have a great trip and safe travels!!!

You can find some great information on Newport in Tom's Port Guide (google it).  He tells you how to do it by using the local bus (with great directions) and other useful information.
