NYC Cruise Terminal: Haven Lounge?

We are leaving from NYC and are booked in the Haven.  The only departure-day flight we could get arrives into NYC ~7:30 am.  I can't find anything specific regarding a Haven area in the terminal, hours, etc.

I've looked on ncl.com, CC strings and on the NYC CT website but can't find anything specific.  I'm assuming there is a lounge, but would like to be sure.  Our eDoc says not to arrive/check-in before 12pm, even though the ship departs at 3pm.

We left from NYC a couple of years ago but were not in a suite or Haven and we don't remember noticing a separate area (although we do remember the very long check-in line!).

Any information regarding this would be very much appreciated; we're hoping not to have to sit around the airport for 4 hrs!

Thanks in advance

There is a Haven lounge in NYC, not very big but they move you out as soon as they can. If memory serves me right security opens around 930 or 10. Not sure where you are coming in from so if the plane is on time I would guess that by the time you get your luggage and transportation to the pier, you'll probably get there around 930. If things are moving faster just  take you time. Note that it says boarding begins at noon not arrival especially since you are in the haven.

We just did NYC in the haven and the "lounge" was a joke at the terminal. It had hard chairs (like what is at a banquet round at a hotel) and mediocre coffee. They had 3 counters for check in and space was very tight. I would suggest staying at the airport in one of the airline lounges. You can generally buy day passes and have access to a bathroom, free wifi, snacks and adult beverages.

The rest of the trip was amazing and the Haven was fantastic, just the lounge area was less than expected.

There is a lounge.  When you enter the upstairs area, go to the right and look for someone with a Haven sign.  They'll check your documents and/or your name on a list.  They'll escort you to security then to the Haven lounge area.  We've gotten there a couple times around 9:45 and area is open.  There are restrooms just outside the lounge.  Boarding last time started at 10:50 which is the earliest we've ever had.

With the larger ships the area is definitely not large enough.

If you weren't impressed by the Haven lounge in NYC then your really going to be let down by the lounges in Miami or Boston.

With a flight arriving at 7:30, and assuming waiting for deplaning and baggage pickup; you won't be leaving the airport til 8:30 or 9, and will get to the Haven lounge (even though it's smallish) by the time it opens.  I wouldn't waste money on buying an airline lounge daypass, but if you belong to one, then waiting an hour or so there is a good idea.  Your baggage will sit unattended at baggage claim, though.

The Haven lounge is located about halfway down the pier and is pretty small. My wife and I got in around 10am and it was packed by 10:20am with the overflow going someplace else. Luckily we started boarding around 10:45am. I remember being in suite on the Gem years ago, the Haven / Suite lounge was on the other side of the pier close to where you check in. I thought that room was a whole lot larger

We are not in the Haven but will be arriving at the port sort of early - flight lands at EWR around 8 am. We're planning to take the Airtrain to Penn Station and take a taxi from there.

Never claimed a bag at EWR before so no idea how long it takes but in CLT you can expect to wait around 15 min after the plane arrives to claim the bag. I think the Airtrain takes about an hour to Penn. Another 15 minutes to exit and find a cab and a final 15 minutes for the cab ride and dropping off the bags.

So adding it all up, I'm expecting we'll arrive at 9:45. Then we wait...

After the priority boarding, is it first come first serve getting onboard? Would like to be sitting at lunch in the MDR by noon if possible.

You'll be giving a boarding number when you arrive, if you arrive around 9:45 you'll be fine, general boarding usually starts 11:15-11:30am. The crew will steer you to the buffet, I believe the dining rooms don't open until Noon

We were on the Sept. 8 sailing of the Escape to New England and Canada. The Escape was delayed getting into New York due to the hurricane. Our flight into LGA arrived at 9:30 am and we arrived at the pier at 11:20. They didn't expect the ship to arrive till 2"00 pm and wouldn't be boarding till after 5:00 pm. At the pier, they were advising people to drop off their luggage and then go see the city. We were not up for walking around New York all day, so we opted to stay in the Haven waiting area.

The Haven waiting area is way back, almost to the end of the pier. Unfortunately, the chairs are hard plastic and since the ship was not there, neither were any snacks and drinks. They gave us a ticket to get a bag of chips from the vendor at the pier. We purchased a couple of sandwiches. Later, someone who appeared to be in charge said the tickets were for sandwiches, but it was too late. The also gave us boarding cards and we were in group one.

The Haven waiting area was so cold that we decided to sit in the overflow area, which became very crowded as time went on. They eventually checked us in based on our boarding cards. Unfortunately, when they started boarding, they forgot about the boarding cards and it became a madhouse. Also, because the Haven waiting area was so far down the pier, by the time we walked to the entrance, they were letting everyone else board at the front of the pier. We eventually got to the Haven and had a wonderful cruise. Here's some pics of the luxurious Haven waiting area.

I'd get there sooner rather than later. Arrived at 10:30 for my Breakaway cruise. Got on board and into the Haven courtyard by 11:20 at which point some high ranking officer surrounded by other officers was wrapping up a talk to the assembled guests that I completely missed. Mind you, the cabins weren't ready so we had to wait another hour in the courtyard, but they brought dishes of sliders and fries and fruit punch.

Thanks to everyone for the responses and information: it is all very helpful.

Based on all the input, looks like we'll head over to the NYC CT after collecting our baggage @ EWR, spend some time in the 'luxurious' Haven lounge and (hopefully) be able to get on board late am.

Thanks again for all the feedback!

Just an FYI — there are two cruise terminals in NYC (one in Manhattan and one in Brooklyn), and so neither is called the NYC CT. You are going to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.

Enjoy your cruise!

Good point! I should have better clarified in the original post; old habits, etc.

Another FYI, if you search for Manhattan Cruise Terminal in Google Maps, it points to pier 94 (54th st) which is not where NCL docks. I believe the actual pier you want is 88 (48th st. )

This was the Haven waiting area in Miami (Terminals B & C) when we cruised on the Getaway.  The chairs were very comfortable.  We also had access to a large breakfast spread that we shared with the Platinums, CAS, etc.

I believe that NCL ships also dock at Pier 90.  The official street address for the MCT is 711 12th Ave, New York, NY 10019.  But all of this is pretty irrelevant; there's only one entry for vehicles.  Tell your driver you are going to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.  (Once you get close, you will be able to see your ship!)

NCL Docks at 88 95% of the time. In the odd chance two NCL are in port the same time they will also use 90

I have heard the Pier 90 as well, but from my research Pier 88 comes up more often. I'm curious how to find out for sure. Maybe there is a webcam or something I can check?

I've also read a money-saving tip to not have the driver go into the normal loading area but to drop you off across the street on 12th street. I can see on Google maps street view there is a taxi stand and a place for taxis to pull over directly across from Pier 88. Even if it turns out to be Pier 90, it's only a short walk.
