I’m back!! My Jewel of the Seas Greek Isles Travel Blog Round 2

Recommended Posts

You have done an excellent job on blogging about this cruise.  Wish I had known about Carmine and the Amalfi coast excursion as that was outstanding.  When we were walking around in Rhodes and the walled area we came across this wedding party. Struck up a brief conversation since the were married on the same day we were.  They were married just one hour and we were celebrating 30 years on the same day.  The groom said he had a lot of catching up to do.

After taking in this beautiful building we walked across the street to this little bar

I feel this is a real secret in Rome... everyone concentrates on the main tourist areas of the Vatican, Trevi, Spanish Steps, Castel Sant'Angelo etc. This is located close to Termini Train Station, so many super convenient hotels for anyone visiting Rome for a day two pre/port cruise. This is one of the 4 major Papal Basilicas, and has amazing crypts and art. Lots of amazing photos online will likely convince anyone following here to have a visit if you haven't done so before

We stayed at a hotel 2 blocks from here.  We were able to take the train from FCO and walk to the hotel.  The Basilica is beautiful.

Yep... want to point out that the photo you showed is actually the back... from the main Via, many times there's homeless on the steps, or garbage strewn around.... looks like the place could be closed or locked up! I feel likely many tourists walk on by because of this not knowing what they're missing. You have to walk a block around the building to the beautiful square on the other side for the entrance.

I wanted to but wouldn’t have been able to talk the group into it. The building is so incredible from the front! we’ve driven by a couple times to/from FCO

Was it Grappa?  Grappa is suppose to be like brandy but can be really nasty.  My uncles use to drink it, and though it was fun to let us taste it.

it was grappa! It was definitely like a brandy that’s for sure.

no :-( I was lucky to get Nate in the church we stumbled into last year. They’re just not his thing. I, however, would love to visit every church in Italy.

Yeah there are different kinds, but it can be really nasty.  I had a similar experience in Mykonos, when the waiter convinced me into trying Greek Coffee.  Never again.

I'm not really a church goer, but the ones in Rome are different, and that one is more of a museum.

I honestly don’t know how we managed to eat SO much that day but here we are again...eating. The pizza was good but we did not care for the restaurant itself.

friend decided we needed dinner reservations at this place they had gone to the night prior I probably gained the 4lbs just in this one day.

He made reservations for 8pm.

After checking out their airbnb we walked to the restaurant...a locals type of place. It was indeed great! I highly highly recommend if you’re on this part of town

Travel day!
We had a shuttle service reservation for 8am and breakfast started at our hotel at 7:30. We woke up, took our bags downstairs, and made our way to the rooftop bar where breakfast was served.

A few words on Hotel Otivm:
We highly recommend! The staff were all fantastic, the location is great, the view is great, air controlled room. Perfect.

Our driver showed up a few minutes before 8, but we were already downstairs and ready to go. This driver was the least friendly of them all and honestly he put me off from the service. We arrived at the airport at 8:15 and lugged our baggage inside.

don’t leave me yet!!! one final surprise to come!

FCO is kind of confusing when you’re first getting there and trying to find your counter, but we finally made it to the BA line...where there was only one agent working the counter and she was taking the business class folks first...so we stood in line for an hour before we finally got to check our luggage. $75 for the one suitcase we stuffed extra full. I had brought the travel luggage scale and we weighed everything very carefully to make sure only one was overweight. That thing worked like a charm!

We got to the counter finally and asked if there were any upgrades available. She said there weren’t any available above business class. Ok, we asked, how much for that? She looked at us confused and said we already were. I’m sorry what???? we just stood in that hour line for nothing?

We were both in shock as we made our way through security and border control.
I mean, we paid $700 round trip. how did this even happen? I don’t even know!

Our first flight was FCO to Heathrow.
Once again, there was no one in the seat next to me for this short flight!

We landed in Heathrow.

Final installment to come
