I’m back!! My Jewel of the Seas Greek Isles Travel Blog Round 2

Recommended Posts

we walked over to the station next to the Colosseum and made our way up to the street above (we were told there was a restroom up there)
We didn’t go up there last year and I was so excited when we got up there because I discovered the Instagram location I see in all the pics....I also discovered gelato

This location was perfect for photo taking but unfortunately the Kenyan street pushers were unbearable. We were so annoyed. We decided to walk to the other side of the Colosseum.

So we didn’t get to see the Colosseum lit up at night but I gotta say that sunset over the Colosseum just might be unbeatable!

I was wondering why you didn’t have a proposal spot picture in with the others from there. Glad you didn’t miss out on that.

I’m sure your pup will feel better soon, but he sure didn’t look very happy wearing his “cone of shame”!  He looked really cute, just not very happy! He will feel better soon, and I’m sure he’ll still love his mom & dad!

So on last year’s trip one of my top 2 gelato places was Gelateria Della Palma. They have 150 flavors and are located near the Pantheon.
I knew I HAD to go there again.
After rounding the Colosseum we decided on dinner somewhere near the gelato place and started walking that way. We found a cute restaurant a few doors down and grabbed a table.

I’ll have to search through my receipts to find the name of it. I’d rate it 6 or 7 out of 10. The flat bread and prosciutto were great but the pizza and steak just ok.

After paying our 56euro bill we headed to the gelateria.

Loving the review. Cant wait to cruise with you on the T/A next year

Great review.  I read your previous Med cruise review and was excited for this one.  Greece is on our list.  And, what is this TA you speak of?  We just did our first TA in April of this year and are hooked.  We are looking for another in 2021.  What itinerary are you doing?

We are platinum on Carnival but did our TA on NCL and are now pretty much over Carnival.  We have never sailed RC, but for the right itinerary would give it a try.  Overall, how does the food compare to other lines?

Thanks again for a wonderful review!

Are y’all ready for me to finally get to embarkation day?

The night prior I received an email from the shuttle service with the confirmed pick up time and a picture of our driver (we never had the same driver). We woke up at 10 for our 11am late check out. I don’t think I’ve mentioned the prices I paid for our transfers: to and from the port was 69euro and to and from the airport was 50euro.
We had a few minutes to kill so spent 6.50euro at La Baguetteria (nutella croissant and prosciutto sandwich) and shuttle picked us up at 11:20 on the dot. This cute cafe is just outside the hotel.

Our driver showed up right on time. Sometimes a shared service can be quite a quiet drive OR it can be like this one and totally awesome. We rode with a couple from Cleveland, Lisa and Roger, celebrating their 35th anniversary and cruising with us and a family from Australia going on the Norwegian Jade. We had great conversation covering a range of topics the whole way to the ship.

We got to the ship at 1 and once again quickly onboard. The fastest embarkations and debarkations we’ve ever had have been at Civi with RCCL.

So far surf & stream VOOM is working better than just voom from last year.

Our interior cabin, 9013, was ready so we dropped off the carry on containing my 2 bottles of wine and Of course went straight to WJ and walked the ship...It was incredibly windy outside!

our cabin was definitely bigger than a Carnival interior, but we missed having a balcony this cruise for sure.

we’re doing the Allure of the Seas TA from Barcelona to Miami on November 1, 2020. We have an incredibly active roll call already so should be pretty interesting!
I agree...we’re over Carnival too.
Royal’s food is great although this cruise was a bit disappointing but honestly we ate so much in ports it didn’t matter too much

We went back to the cabin for Nate to take a nap while I uploaded photos to my laptop.
We had no bags yet and stuff was left behind in our closet from the last passengers. There was a sheet for laundry on the bed but no laundry bag in the room. Hopefully the cabin steward comes soon...
Our muster drill was to be at 4pm in the coral theatre

Patrick, our room steward, came by at 3:30. really nice guy. He brought a laundry bag immediately
I tried and tried to get the safe to work and no go. kept saying error.
We came back from muster to unpack our bags which had arrived and leave clothes out for pressing. There was a $17.49 full bag special. We filled it with 10 of Nates shirts and 2 dress pants (it was returned at 7pm on the following Nate...right in the nick of time for formal night).

We walked up to deck 11 to watch sail away party...what there was of one...and a cc member came up and introduced themselves (hi OB and Brenda!) We talked for quite a while before splitting for their dinner and us to go to the gym.

After the gym we came back to room and a tech came to fix the safe...all set!

My notes from that night say:

We had very slow service at dinner and I was stuck in a chair at our table with no way to get out because of the table so close next to me and someone sitting directly behind me. Our dinner took 2 hours.

After dinner we made reservations for the next night at 7:30 and asked for a different section and then we walked around a bit and headed to the casino for our usual roulette. I lost $40 and Nate lost $50 and we decided no more casino for us. we’d rather spend our money in the ports. we got 2 drinks each and split it $21.23 each...meh I don’t feel like I’m going to drink much this trip. (did I keep to that thought?)

afterwards we went to solarium for prosciutto snacks and headed to bed...we were back in the cabin by 10:30.

The following day was our first sea day....we slept until 11! I woke up to the room pitch black and went to look at the phone thinking it must be around 7 and I was shocked.

I woke Nate up and we got to WJ during changeover so only had a slice of french toast and a piece of bbq chicken. We went to the gym but it was so hot and I could really feel the movement of the ship. not a good combo....walked around outside and went to get food. I got a chicken burger n salad but just couldn’t stomach it. The seasickness had set in.

We went back to the room, I took 2 seasickness pills, n a 2 hour nap. When I woke up I felt great! We went for a quick walk around the windy top deck.

Time for our first formal night! Once Nate’s clothes showed up he did a quick change and we were ready to go.
