Same meaning stop at Ocean Cay? They were supposed to have it ready by then and it's still not ready? If that's the case, we may not make it at the end of Dec.

It was supposed to originally be ready for December 2017 when Seaside debuted.  They pushed that back to spring 2018.

yep and those cancellations will need to be compensated in some way.  Glad to see we agree!

I would agree with you that some compensation would be in order.  MSC may think otherwise.

Caribbean private Islands are overrated. I would take the cash rather than going to a half finished artificial island that looks like a construction zone.

Tell us how you really feel.

So, some think that $100 is generous.  Do you know how much time some people plan their vacations so they can relax.  Now they have to take time from their vacation.  There should be more notice and a better reason.  We had a safe/shaded cabana planned at Ocean Cay for the family that has two females.  Hmm, how safe is Ocho Rios?  They tell you to be alert at resorts. It may work for some people, but not all.

If you feel that way why even get off the boat in Jamaica at all? Just stay on the ship and sit by the pool. You should be able to relax plenty there as well while the majority of the passengers get off the ship. Might actually be even more relaxing than Ocean Cay.

OK we are on the same cruise and the letter recd from Captain 👩‍✈️ states $100 and

20% of the fare paid for this cruise not 20% off a new booking.

I just want to clarify the position and we think it’s fair

I'm on Mera 11/17.  Haven't received notification of cancelled port stop yet.  It's a short cruise, so if they want to add another sea day, I'm okay with that.  More time to explore the ship.  And it saves me from spending the money on a cabana.  Would be nice to be compensated some way, but truly I don't expect it and won't be angry if they don't.

That offer makes me want our stop there to be canceled!

😂 I thought the same thing. What are the chances that it still won’t be ready in December 2020, when I’m booked to go there?

We have now seen that in the letter. Still better than nothing I suppose?

Nikki- the letter circulating the internet positively states future cruise credit. See paragraph above the itinerary changes. I wonder if they are giving different offers based on some unknown criteria

Emma, please see post above. Are you and nikki saying you received a different letter entirely?>

20% of what we paid for this against a future booking is what we have understood and that is very generous.

Ok, that's how I originally understood the offer.

To summarize, guests will receive 20% of the cost of the cruise only portion of this cruise in the form of a future cruise credit. That coupled with the fact that the 100 OBC is refundable means MSC did a very generous offer IMO.

They are also advertising free bella cruises from casinos at sea for the Nov 10th sailing. MSC is acting like Santa right now :).

That sounds to me an incredible win....the Caribbean is awash with such islands, and I never understood the fuss across the various threads on Ocean Cay! 😉

I totally agree hamrag  If i was offered $100 OBS and 20% off a future cruise I  would be well chuffed  After all Ocean Cay is just an island with a beach they are all over the Caribbean what is so special about Ocean Cay????

Ocean Cay has been the center of the biggest advertising campaigns from MSC for all caribbean sailings. MSC must think it's something very special.

I suspect for the the average guest, it's someplace new. Many of us have been to each of the islands MSC visits with their bigger ships in the Caribbean numerous times.

Others, like myself, have followed the islands reconstruction for several years and want to visit ourselves just to see the progress in person.

I, too, feel the offer is generous, but social media sites are lit up this morning with others who don't share this opinion. For many, ocean cay was the 'special' that tipped the scales into booking MSC over the competition.

No one could think Ocean Cay is 'that special' without being sold the concept by MSC.

What attracted me to this cruise was sailing out of New York.

just thinking imagine if the new stop had been Nassau...

We like it there but...

I think you know me by now through these boards... now what to do in Ocho Rios! We are looking at ships tours but they are expensive and not all that bothered about sitting on a beach all day... a rum distillery might do it!
anyone any suggestions would be appreciated!

The port fees MSC has been charging for itineraries stopping at Ocean Cay have been much higher than for itineraries that don't visit OC.  Any word if the port fees will be adjusted?

I'd take that offer and be happy about it.  We sail February 22, 2020 and have an ocean view cabana rented in the YC area

but thinking that won't happen and I would be very fine if I had that compensation.  Even not, I would use the day to relax onboard, better than getting up and going to work!

Well I too have followed the build up to this Island , We have 2 cruises booked which do  both happen to stop here but we didnt book because of Ocean Cay ,  In fact on our Caribbean cruise this year we only had one day at the beach and that was only because we were waiting for our flight home . Im just  not a beach person . MSC has not sold the concept to me, in my eyes its an Island with a beach like many others,  I suppose the edge this has over other beaches is your food and drinks are included(if you have a package) . For anyone booking a cruise anywhere in the world there is always the possibility that ports of call will be cancelled for various reasons ,  eg Cuba thanks to Trump, San Juan because of riots and various other ports due to the  weather . And I suppose also as they are "building" the Island as we all know building works often over run (many cruise ships themselves have missed sailing dates for not being ready)

So You books your cruise you takes your chance you might be disappointed ,

MSC is compensating cruisers , but many im sure will still demand more .
