weather on transatlantic cruises

Recommended Posts

When crossing from UK to Caribbean in October, when can I expect to hit warmer weather in order to be able to enjoy the open decks? We are going via Madeira. Conversely when cruising back to UK, when will it become too cold to sit outside? Any advice on clothing etc appreciated.  regards kev

Agree

and if you’re lucky the day before Madeira/after Azores will be “ok” too.  OK to walk on deck, take the air, maybe be fortunate in finding a sheltered sunny spot.

The answer to clothing queries is, as ever, “layers”

Enjoy your cruise

We have had a variety of conditions on TA's in October, once it was warm on the second day and hardly a ripple all the way over. Another time once after we left Maderia all outside decks were closed our balcony doors were locked and I believe portholes were locked too for 3 days. You just never know what the weather will throw at you.

Just back last Sunday from a Canaries and Maderia cruise on Aurora, we were Sun bathing the first morning after leaving Southampton and it was warm and calm seas for 12 days until we got halfway through the Bay of Biscay on the way back when we were hit by a force 10 game which had people falling over and crockery falling off tables so you never know what weather you may get.

From Southampton to Fort Lauderdale via The Azores...Mid Jan the Bay of Biscay lived up to its reputation but as we neared The Azores the weather improved. From then on light clothes till we got to Florida....After the Azores we loved watching the flying fish near the bow escaping the waves. A great trip on the QE2.

We've just travelled across the Atlantic to Barbados. We had fog each day until we got to Madeira where it was sunny and warm. From there each day at sea was mainly sunny and 25C - 28C. Just our luck though that today in our first visit to Barbados has been heavy rain for most of the day so they gave us the option of cancelling our booked scenic and beach tour with a full refund.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise, sounds lovely.

Hope the rain eases off and the sun shines for you. 🌞

Presumably you are on Arcadia kenham. If so, can you please treat her gently because we will be joining her when she returns. She may need some gentle persuasion to turn towards the North Sea and carry on to snowy Northern Norway rather than heading back to warmer climes.

Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale in November, started warming up in the Canaries. Miami to Southampton in April, ok until Azores then cooled down.

Southampton to Miami via Boston, New York and Bermuda in November,  smooth crossing but chilly, only warmed up when we got to Bermuda.

Barcelona to Port Canaveral in November, warm all the way but heated up after a drizzly Madeira.
